Audio/Video Quality: Crude Oil 4 was presented in a visually appealing anamorphic widescreen color using an aspect ratio of 1.78:1 as shot by director Dawayne Dane for Zero Tolerance using the MPEG-2 codec employed by standard definition releases and a 480i resolution. The lighting was modest here, not completely eliminating the shadows and grain like most of Mike's recent works of late, with enough variation to add some texture in a few of the six scenes but in need of polishing up as far as I was concerned. The grain was minimal as was the video noise and I got the impression that Dawayne winged it with a single camera for most of the scenes, the results generally working out pretty well, though not up to Quasar's best works there. It was not perfect but this did enhance the replay value for me as it showed more care than usual. The bitrate tended to hover around the mid 4.2 Mbps area most of the time I paid any attention to it. The composition of the scenes enhanced the look of the ladies, each of them used to softer lighting in recent scenes but not needing it for the purposes of this release. The sole audio track was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital English using the standard 192 Kbps rate using a 48 kHz sampling rate most titles are mastered with, the aural experience fairly limited due to the nature of the gonzo shoot (there was no secondary track in Spanish this time thankfully enough). There was no separation between the channels and the dynamic range was as truncated as ever, standard gonzo audio being okay for most consumers.

Body of Review: Dawayne Dane is often thought of as a production assistant that sometimes directs for Zero Tolerance (and sister companies), their best man for handling interracial titles. Personally, I don't think there is a lot of difference in how such titles are shot (unless the gal is bright white and the guy is especially dark-lighting that seems to be a bitch from how lame it gets done most times) but as someone that simply enjoys the pairing of attractive professionals into their work, I'm not fixated on the subject. The technical matters were decent and even the missing BTS feature was not enough for me to lower the rating too much, the overall concept handled pretty well as a rule. In short, Crude Oil 4, like Crude Oil 2 that I reviewed a few years ago, was well worth checking out if you like interracial action. It did not rely on shock value or circus act sex so much as adherence to a winning formula that provides fans with plenty of strokable action and replay value, proving the worth of the director as much as that of the performers giving their all.
