Extras: Once the spam was over, the menu revealed a moderate amount of extras, the movie itself longer than average this time. First up for me was a scene between Raylene, Laura Palmer, Mickey Ray, and I believe Rick Brock, from an oldie called "Lap Top". The music overpowered the vocals but Raylene looked hot, and the 7:18 minute scene helped show just how far Vivid has come in the last ten+ years. The second scene was the kind I have routinely demanded as a consumer for years, a scene specifically made for the production in hand, this time showing Raylene working with the mighty Evan Stone on a luxurious bed. It lasted 14:51 minutes and lacked some of the detail the other scenes in the movie provided but they went at one another better than expected, Raylene having a modicum of trouble handling the admittedly excited Evan as he hammered away at her snatch. The best part of the scene for me was the manner in which she aggressively slobbed his knob, the rest of it coming across as though Raylene was getting off but overwhelmed by Evan like a lot of newcomers have been in the past (and Raylene is certainly no newcomer). There were also some trailers, a photogallery, and a 10:18 minute long Behind the Scenes feature, Raylene enjoying herself and Skow's admiration of her evident, Shylar Cobi handling the camera as though he was a bit intoxicated (CWI: cameraman while intoxicated?!?), make up gal Renee looking puzzled at his attempts to capture her likeness at least once.

Audio/Video Quality: Raylene's Dirty Work was presented in the same 1.78:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen color it was shot in by director B. Skow for Vivid Entertainment using the standard definition MPEG-2 codec in 480p resolution for the SD version. The movie was shot in 1080i high definition (using those Canon's Skow favors), so I anticipate a high definition release in the near future to squeeze out more detail for adoring fans. The editing was slightly choppy this time, Mr. Palo Alto credited with those duties, and post production was again handled by Kyle Caruso. The composition of the camera angles was often optimal to capture the raw energy of the scenes but frequently required shooting into the light causing color saturation issues, giving it a different look than many of Skow's previous works. The fleshtones were fairly accurate (some tint issues did exist, like in the first scene's sauna sequence) though but the DVD mastering was well done even if the video bitrate hovered around 5.8 Mbps. There was a company watermark that I wasn't too keen on but most of the camera work seemed to keep this in mind, keeping the majority of action far away from the lower right hand corner most of the time. The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital English (in 192 Kbps with a 48 kHz sampling rate) offering with the vocals sounding flat and the music pretty decent. For some reason, the levels were about the same as usual but aside from the added background noise, the dynamic range was average and the separation of the vocal track nonexistent. For an all sex vignette though, it was a sufficient soundtrack with minimalist leanings most of you will appreciate over loud generic music found elsewhere.

Body of Review: B. Skow is the director steering Vivid Entertainment into the future; his value to the company as a director that likes women and enjoys showcasing their sexual activities a huge advance for the company. As his stature grows among consumers as the kind of guy that is known for providing the most fuck for the buck that is "all killer and no filler", his showcase efforts have resulted in expanded attention by critics such as myself. His latest release is Raylene's Dirty Work, starring the comeback of popular ex-contract gal Raylene. The last I saw of her was at a local club in Houston, her feature dancing giving way to her becoming a real estate magnate in California, the collapse of that market presumably assisting her return to show us what she looks like eight years later. As one of the long time fans of the lady, I have to admit that she looks better than ever, be it Skow's skill with a camera or the hard work she has put into keeping shapely, I can't say for sure. This time, Raylene stars in three full scenes in the movie and even provides a brand new scene in the extras section made just for this DVD, a welcome change for the company to provide related material and cater to Raylene's fans. The box cover described the movie like this: "Raylene goes straight through the front door and into the back, with her first anal B/B/G scene in years! And what a comeback it is! B. Skow shoots seven big scenes, with Raylene in four of them! All shot around horny housewives doing horny housework! They spray and wax and suck and fuck, and all you'll think about is how much hotter Raylene is eight years later! Hey...it's Dirty Work, but someone's gotta do it!" Skow for Vivid Entertainment was one of the better comeback showcases I have seen, the director capturing the best parts of Raylene in the four scenes included in the DVD package. While there were some unpolished aspects to the show and most fans of hers will wonder why she wasn't in each scene, this title easily earned a rating of Recommended from me for the masses, upgraded to a "must have" if you adore Raylene. This was better than almost all of her works from the good old days put together, Skow's touch evident and the longer scenes allowing the gals more time to impress than they were given back in during the height of Raylene's popularity. If nothing else, the show serves as a great means to compare the older style of Vivid with their newfound sensibilities, the amount of fuck for the buck strokability, replay value, and female cast selection competing with anything else she has coming out with other companies. In short, Raylene's Dirty Work was a very nice package of scenes for modern porn aficionados to see what the buzz was about on this very appealing lady without all the trappings of her previous work.
