Extras: The best related extra was the 7:05 minute long Behind the Scenes feature, some of the ladies getting a bit more screen time in various states of clothing for the appreciative fans. The next best extra was a 23:13 minute long scene from It's A Secretary Thing 1 that is described below, the rest of the extras a generic package including trailers, a photogallery, and a pop shot recap.

Audio/Video Quality: Girl Play was presented in the usual 1.78:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen as shot by director Patrick Collins for Elegant Angel using the MPEG-2 codec with 480p resolution. The standard definition version of the movie was not as crisp and clear looking but it was still very polished in all the major areas so fans will not be disappointed. The lighting was good with only a few moments that could have been touched up, the raw energy nicely developed by the director. William Nutsack worked the camera and Bruce Carter's editing helped keep this one looking solid on a technical level. Otherwise, there was little grain, some video noise, and mostly minor visual issues that got in the way of having a truly first rate picture but such matters were few and far between, handled better than expected for the gonzo company. The composition of the shots tended to favor the ladies nicely, rarely chopping off their heads in a frame or missing out on significant portions of the action. The editing was better this time though a few of the edits were too abrupt or noticeable but part of that might be due to what kind of footage was presented. I saw no compression artifacts (it was largely falling around the 3.8 Mbps video bitrate; in the mid-range but probably needed given the amount of material on the DVD) and the composition of the camera angles strongly favored the female performers as most of his work these days tends to do. The 2.0 Dolby Digital English track was pretty basic with little separation or dynamic range yet I could hear the cast well enough in most cases. For those keeping track, the audio was offered in a 192 Kbps offering with a 48 kHz sampling rate, plenty of room considering how little took place on it but leaving room for future efforts too.

Body of Review: Elegant Angel is one of the few companies that have listened, truly listened, to consumers in recent years, elevating their image well above some of the industry heavyweights in my estimation when it comes to giving fans what they want rather than dictating it from on high. Part of this approach is due to the manner in which owner/director Patrick Collins keeps his ear to the ground, paying attention rather than taking a bunker mentality to hunker down and ride out the economic storm as so many of his peers have tried to do. The result is movies like Girl Play, a set of five lesbian scenes based on modest vignettes that use personal chemistry to enhance the outcome. Let's face it, the industry is replete with scores of ladies that are "gay for pay" and willing to turn in half assed performances as long as a paycheck is involved, Patrick seeking something a bit more fulfilling (and providing more replay value as a result). As always, he found some of the best looking women in porn to present here too, my expectations of the movie such that it struck me as being a "can't lose" proposition. Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Karlie Montana and Isobel Wren

Scene One: Alyssa Reece, a cute brunette washing windows, was infatuated with sunbathing hotty Sophia Santi in this first scene. Sophia's bikini was skimpy and her ever increasing tattoo was huge, but there was no doubt that she was as sexy as ever here. Sophia took a break and encouraged Alyssa to do likewise, the pair striking up a conversation outside that led to Alyssa oiling Sophia up in a very heated manner. The small talk led to all the usual lesbian tricks, the gals licking, caressing, and going down on one another with some extensive toy play. There was a little rough stuff like choking but my only real complaint was that they went inside instead of staying in the perfect sunlight of the day. There was no genetic juice spilled here or the other scenes, the heat of this one certainly a good start to the flick.

Samantha Ryan and Ryan Keely

Scene Two: Jana Jordan, a very cute blond with a nice smile, was up next as a nurse for crazy April O'Neil. April was strapped to the bed and struggling against her bonds, the scenario playing out as the couple kept in character while finding each other hot. April took charge of the nervous nurse and their hands were soon all over one another just as their tongues were, the location having changed to a large warehouse that was empty but for the bed. There was some chemistry here too, not as much as in the previous scene but more than I usually see in such fuck flicks, Jana dropping all pretenses as she got into getting off with Alyssa. There was no toy play this time, Jana doing some foot fetish action instead but both coming across as getting off.

Scene Three: Taylor Vixen and Franziska Facella, the attractive ladies featured on the front cover, were both up next as they engaged in a pay for play rendezvous (the cash changing hands early on). They settled in on a couch and began kissing, a seductive type of kissing rather than the lizard licking so prevalent among lipstick lesbians in porn. The idea coming from them was that an experienced gal was initiating the newcomer, the titty play leading to some vibrator use. The gals were all over one another and again, the level of personal chemistry varied here but the energy level was always pretty decent, the camera exploring some odd but interesting angles to showcase body parts in a provocative way.

Scene Four: Karlie Montana, one of the sexiest lesbians in porn for some time now, and also attractive Isobel Wren, were up next in a caretaker scenario that was strangely erotic, the spa atmosphere lending itself to the understated theme of the scene. The oiling was again appreciated and the light caresses were a lot hotter than the brutish way so many such scenes are shot, Karlie giving her all as the lead in the scene. There was a cleaning ritual including a sponge bath and fancy French toilet squirting water up the cookie, the massaging enough to give some off camera wood here. The music wasn't exactly consistent though, starting and stopping repeatedly, but the toy use combined well to make this a warm scene worth your stroking pleasure.

Scene Five: Ryan Keely, playing a hostess admiring Samantha Ryan for answering a personal ad, was up last as the two horny gals slowly appreciated one another. They drank champagne (from the looks of it) and that helped set the tone of things, the light kisses turning increasingly heated as they felt the warmth generated by each other. Ryan was the sexual aggressor here, Samantha kicking back for the ride as she was treated to some oral love. The penetrative portion was mostly limited to some solo work they each engaged in beside one another towards the end of the scene, both likely getting off from what I could tell.

Bonus Scene: It's A Secretary Thing 1: Karlie can't get the damn Air Conditioner to work. So when Carli shows up for a position, Karlie wants to make this bitch work for it. This a great girl/girl scene, as Karlie makes Carli lick every inch of her. It's hot, sweaty passion played to the nines and it's visually enveloping. I've got to give it up for Karlie Montana. This lady has come out of nowhere to knock me on my ass with her work in 2008. (review by Guy Incognito)

Summary: Girl Play by director Patrick Collins for Elegant Angel provided a variety of sexual action by the ladies doing each other, the easiest way to sum up the action being that all of them seemed to have fun. There were few earth shattering moments of course but I cannot deny that Patrick has proven again that he still has the touch that made him quite popular years ago so I rated this as Recommended. Unlike many formulaic lesbian shows, this one provided some different approaches to give it more replay value, the technical aspects always better than average along the way. In short, Girl Play was accurately advertised with some very fine looking ladies doing some very provocative things in a manner that all straight men should find quite pleasing so give it a look.
