Extras: The best extra for most people will be the bonus scene from Barely Legal #97 that I've described below in detail. Personally, I prefer extras tailored to the actual release in hand such as deleted footage, additional scenes not included in the movie, extended length scenes and the like but if you're reading this, you probably already know that. I did like the 25:24 minute long Behind the Scenes feature though, as it allowed the cast and crew a chance to extol the many virtues of the production, starting with Tommy shaving his infamous goatee for the leading role of Fonzie. The rest of the extras were generic in nature such as trailers, a slide show, and a bunch of spam in the form of commercials.

Audio/Video Quality: This Ain't Happy Days XXX: Fonzie Luvs Pinky was presented in a colorful 1.78:1 ratio, anamorphic widescreen, offering as shot by director Alex Braun for Hustler Video using the 480p resolution and MPEG-2 codec typical of standard definition projects. Unlike earlier sitcum efforts by the staff at Hustler, there appeared to be an attempt to do this one right, paying closer attention to the sets, the clothing, and other visual elements of the movie. The original show started off as a single camera effort that went to a three camera production after the show became a hit so this parody did look closer than usual on technical levels too, albeit pornified somewhat with lower budgets and time constrictions as expected. The editing wasn't as tight as the best genre efforts but Claudia Ross seemed up to the task of polishing up Axel's raw footage nicely enough. The standard definition version of the flick had few compression artifacts, only a bit of noise & edge enhancement, and proper lighting to assist in making the movie look more like the original, the art direction credited to the director himself. In short, in terms of the visual esthetics, this title fell short of the original volume in the series but wasn't bad at all, still a notch above most of Axel's works in the sitcum genre. The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital English with a 224 Kbps audio bitrate and 48 kHz sampling rate, the theme song by performer Drew Rose and co written by the now-infamous Roger Krypton, truly a fun song to listen to (still my favorite of the year at this writing). The rest of the audio track had a few problems though, the background noise/laugh track/special effects mixed in a bit too aggressively and a few vocals not caught as solidly as possible. The music was overall true to the show though and that helped aurally elevate it in my opinion.

Body of Review: This Ain't Happy Days XXX #1 was my favorite sitcum by director Alex Braun for Hustler Video this year, the cast meshing well and the concept handled very smoothly compared to how clunky some of his other titles were (some amounting to boring copies of shows like his "Star Trek" release, others showing a lack of knowledge for the shows in general). Given that the company likes to run with winning efforts, it did not surprise me that they decided to green light a sequel though in the form of This Ain't Happy Days XXX: Fonzie Luvs Pinky. For those of you that enjoyed the first volume of sexual hijinks by the cast, you should know up front that there were some cast changes, the writing a bit more expansive but not working as coherently either. This time, Fonzie (Tommy Gunn) was chasing the girl of his dreams, the rest of the cast relying on his advice for their own trysts. The short version of the review is that for me at least, this was closer to the level of Hustler's usual sitcums than the original but it was still worth a look or two for fans of the cast. Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Scene One: Nicole Ray, the brunette spotted on the far left side of the front cover, was up first as Leather Tuscadaro, the rocking bitch showing Tommy "Fonzie" Gunn and Kris "Chachi" Slater, a good time in the diner. In some ways, the scripted elements seemed rushed, the sexual pairings uninspired, and the extras weaker than I hoped for but this was balanced off by the stronger points fans will undoubtedly appreciate for a viewing or two. In short then, This Ain't Happy Days XXX: Fonzie Luvs Pinky was not even close to the quality of This Ain't Happy Days XXX #1 in terms of the fun factor and heated sexuality but it does show that there are no givens in the sitcum market, so perhaps Axel will pay closer attention when attempting sequels in the future.
