Audio/Video Quality: This Ain't Star Trek XXX 2 was presented in a colorful 1.78:1 ratio, widescreen (the SD version being anamorphic), offering as shot by director Axel Braun for Hustler Video using the 1080 resolution and AVC codec typical of high definition projects with the SD version left behind in the usual MPEG-2 codec with 480 resolution as expected. There appeared to be an attempt to do this one better than usual with regard to the sets, mirroring the first volume in the series that won so much praise by the hacks out there. The editing wasn't as tight as the best genre efforts but Claudia Ross seemed up to the task of polishing up Axel's raw footage nicely enough, the video bitrate hovering in the 18.1 Mbps area most of the times I looked, the SD version clocking in around 3.9 Mbps when I checked it out earlier today. The standard definition version of the flick had few compression artifacts, only a bit of noise & edge enhancement, and proper lighting to assist in making the movie look more like the original, the biggest issue being the lame lighting of Jada Fire in her scene that just didn't work out very well. In short, in terms of the visual aesthetics, this title fell short of the original volume in the series but wasn't bad at all, similar to most of Axel's works in the sitcum genre. The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital English with a 224 Kbps audio bitrate and 48 kHz sampling rate, the script seeming to be written in hours given the way it was all over the place (credited to Axel Braun and Marc Star).

Body of Review: Axel Braun and his sitcum parody work for Hustler Video has been admittedly sketchy compared to the best efforts in the field but in terms of entertainment value, I have to give the guy credit for trying something new. While other directors seek to provide homages to shows of the past and present, Axel just has the cast act as though they were imitating their characters, coming across like watered down rip-offs at times. That said, every so often I see something worth checking out in his movies, typically the casting being better than Hustler's generic fodder if nothing else, so I took a chance with This Ain't Star Trek XXX 2: The Butterfly Effect given the list of hotties including Kagney Linn Karter, Alexis Texas, and Kimberly Kane. This time, the crew of the Enterprise attempt a rescue mission but run afoul some alien ladies with other plans, the show even tapping into the overly done time travel concept to showcase a tryst between JFK and Marilyn Monroe. If it sounds rather genetic to you, that would be because it was, the mighty Evan Stone hamming it up as James T. Kirk one more time as the only cast member able to remain "in character". Once you get past the lame story elements and dialogue though, the sex was on par with Hustler's works of late, at least well enough to check out with a rental, but let me suggest having a party and showing the movie once everyone is suitably hammered because that is when it works best. Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Scene One: Kagney Linn Karter, the beautifully curved babe so many have found just adorable of late, and cutie Madison Scott, were up first with Tony "Spock" DeSergio in an alien jail cell. The characterization of the popular Vulcan was again lacking but no one I've spoken with expected any different given his performance in the first show. That said, the ladies looked good even in the cheesy winged costumes they wore, their ample curves spilling out as they pawed Tony. This led to the gals double teaming his pecker before plowing each of them with some taste testing by the gals, a finishing point I liked being the lipstick lesbian oral done on each other before the jerked off facial of genetic juice was provided to Madison. Scene Two: Jada Fire, again playing Uhura the communications officer, took on Anthony "Scotty" Rosano in the private quarters with no build up whatsoever. Granted, of all his feature efforts, these Braun affairs where he has to be semi-serious are his worst, but at least Jada did not let me down given her aggressive blowjob and vaginal penetration. Scene Three: Alexis Texas, the wonderfully sexy blond from Texas, was up next as Marilyn Monroe, the idea of time travel so flippantly played that it stood out like a sore thumb in terms of ruining the pacing of the rest of the movie. I adore Alexis too but she just didn't work out as the legendary star of the silver screen, though she did manage to hold her own against a far worse selection for JFK in Johnny Castle. I know plenty of women that think he's a major hotty too so I can understand the inclusion were it written in to make more sense, the tongue in cheek factor needed to consider this as part of the whole really, really pushing it as far as I was concerned. She did a fine job sucking his pecker and making all sorts of noises here, the cheesy commander in chief office so noticeably bad that I almost wish Axel just stuck with generic fodder more often. He ate her once she was done here, the vaginal boning showing her to be moderately active, some positions far better than others even if none of them showed the chemistry she displays with partners like Mr. Pete. Scene Four: Jennifer Dark, the always sultry foreigner with an alien look to her, was up next with mopers Joey Brass and Keni Styles, their versions of Sulu and Chekov bad enough to merit special attention. Compared to the incredibly poor backdrop used in place of CGI effects though (it had lots of wrinkles and other issues), I almost had to stop and laugh but carried on thanks to the manner in which she blew them with her skillful mouth and hand. It has been said that anyone can look good working over a huge cock but taking a small one and making it look fun requires talent, sadly Jennifer lacked the ability to pull this one off too, their oral on her about as poor as the vaginal positions provided. The wildly generic scene ended with the boys tossing off their wads of semen to her face, hopefully never to be seen again.

Scene Five: Kimberly Kane, the attractive young lady featured on the right side of the front cover, was up last with the mighty Evan Stone, the guy getting less to do this time in a poor decision by someone. He reciprocated to the ill founded music and they boned fairly hardcore, perhaps one of the best such sequences of the entire movie, with the vaginal penetration and chemistry helping them merge as one to show themselves getting off. Bonus Scene: This Ain't Hell's Kitchen XXX: Kagney Linn Karter, the biggest "name" of the movie in terms of current performers, was up next as the roommate of a packrat so she ended up doing Jerry. He was checking her out and looking rougher than I think I've ever seen him look, the intervention not going the way they planned it so the two ended up talking on the bed. Summary: This Ain't Star Trek XXX 2 by director Axel Braun for Hustler Video was suggested as really lame by a friend of mine (Gram, a beloved commentator in porn) but upon closer inspection, it was at least slightly better than the first effort by the director with his Space Seed rip-off, the industry as a whole surpassing that level of competence quite some time ago so I rated this as a Rent It. In short, This Ain't Star Trek XXX 2: The Butterfly Effect might have been better if it focused on a narrower story, dropped the forced JFK/MM sidebar altogether, and at least required the cast to watch a couple of episodes from the original show. As it stands, there are better porn versions of the show out there, the Muffia version as a recent example or the Star Trix series that ran awhile, but I seriously believe Axel has the potential to make a solid porno that balances all aspects when given the resources and time, he just seemed rushed again this time so check it out and see what I mean when I say that I expect more from the company.
