Audio/Video Quality: Southern Belles was presented in a visually appealing anamorphic widescreen color using an aspect ratio of 1.78:1 as shot by director Mike Quasar for Third Degree Films using the MPEG-2 codec employed by standard definition releases with a 480 resolution. The lighting was strong, eliminating the shadows and grain like most of Mike's works in the past, the overall look straightforward even with a minimal nod to soft focus a few times. The grain was minimal as was the video noise and I commend the company for upgrading to some high end cameras awhile back, the enhancement assisting Mike in providing some of the best looking smut around. The bitrate tended to hover around the 5.6 Mbps mark most of the time I paid any attention to it and this helped elevate the production a notch in my book. The composition of the scenes enhanced the look of the ladies, each of them finding Mike's technical expertise matching the right look to make them look their best. The sole audio track was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital English using the standard 256 Kbps rate using a 48 kHz sampling rate most titles are mastered with, the aural experience fairly limited due to the nature of the gonzo shoot. There was also no separation between the channels and the dynamic range was as truncated as ever, standard gonzo audio being okay for most consumers.

Body of Review: Mike Quasar is one of the most experienced directors in all of porn, his works for Third Degree Films and related companies almost always managing to interest me when the casting is right. His latest movie making it my way (while I wait for his "Official To Catch A Predator Parody") this weekend was Southern Belles, a subject near & dear to my heart (or at least my penis). The emphasis this time was on providing ladies from the south in short vignettes with the usual mopes, the overacting striking me as above and beyond that of most all sex flicks these days. The good news is that it stars two of my favorite Texan hotties, Kagney Linn Karter (from Spring, Texas IIRC) and Alexis Texas (the gal from middle Texas so many have found endearing), both ladies featured on the front cover. The basic idea here was to provide a short story where the ladies ended up boning some chump or other, the quality of meat puppets far more variable than that of the ladies, the amount of tease less than Mike's general gonzo offerings. Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Scene One: Briana Blair, a lean blond hotty wearing a short "Heidi" type skirt and top, was up first as she made up for a grievous error regarding Mr. Pete's loofa, performing a striptease for him in the bathroom. Summary: Southern Belles by director Mike Quasar for Third Degree Films lacked in establishing the "southern" credentials of the cast in just about every case though I admit all of the ladies certainly had substantial physical appeal as far as I was concerned. The amount of strokability, replay value, and fuck for the buck merited an overall rating of Recommended though, it just could have been so much better had they not gone out of their way to make it a spoof of southern stereotypes. In short, Southern Belles had Kagney Linn Karter and Alexis Texas looking as hot as ever and the rest of the ladies showed plenty of sexy potential so check this one out and have a good time, you won't be sorry.
