Audio/Video Quality: Jack's POV 16 was presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen using a 480p resolution with the standard definition MPEG-2 encoding as shot by director Robby D. for Digital Playground. The director has been responsible for a wealth of excellent movies in recent years (though some admittedly weaker efforts too), generally using the alias of "Jack" to project his mindset into various situations. This was another in the series that focused on POV (point of view) camera angles, allowing the viewer to imagine they are the ones involved with the ladies. The scenes appeared to be shot with a single camera and minimal lighting, some shadows entering into the picture in every scene but the majority of time showing that the crew behind the camera knew what they were doing. Rather than try for technical excellence this time, Robby appeared to go for a more spontaneous look, a number of glitches left into the picture seemingly on purpose to provide that home movie look he is renowned for shooting. In any case, the SD version of the movie had some compression artifacts and what appeared to be edge enhancement, the moiré barely noticeable though the attempts at shooting from a dark room into bright light bothersome but Nick "Maestro" P. tidied it up really well. Still, not everyone prefers the flat lighting other companies offer up so this would be for those of you that want more texture in your porn. The video bitrate varied significantly but when I spot checked it, the numbers typically bounced around the 5.8 Mbps mark, often going higher or somewhat lower for those who care. The Blu-ray version of the movie clocked in somewhat more impressively using the AVC codec and upgrading the video bitrate to a much more impressive 19.6 Mbps, the level of detail and resolution taking better advantage of the gear the crew used; the cast looking more lifelike than ever. The audio was presented in a post-production added 5.1 Dolby Digital English with a 48 kHz sampling rate and 384 Kbps bitrate (for Blu-ray; the SD version clocking in at 448 Kbps but showing no improvement), none of the vocals showing any separation though the score seemed to during the opening and closing. Aurally speaking then, it was about average which is expected from Robbie's gonzo works or the stuff he handles in the Celeste branded titles.

Body of Review: Robby D. is one of my favorite creative people at Digital Playground, his directorial talents always better when he is left alone to provide the kind of strokable smut he is best at, sadly too many hands spoiling many of his efforts of the past year. While I admit that his works are far from the hardcore gonzo I generally prefer, he typically finds a way to do the most he came with what he has to work with, a feat in and of itself these days when assembly line porn is the norm from those making couples-oriented porn. His latest release sent for review is Jack's POV 16, the point of view series that I've championed a number of times in the past as indicative of why the company (and director) should be taken seriously at awards time. Rather than rely on circus act sex, endless banter no one even listens too that isn't reviewing, or even endless scenarios before the sex, Robby prefers to line up the best talent available and move forward, knowing the winner will be the consumer wise enough to pick up a copy. This time, the show focused on contract hotty Raven Alexis, a varied cast including Chayse Evans, Kourtney Kane, and Kasey Chase also present to instill some quality fuck for your POV buck. The setting varied but in most cases, the sets were limited to a house, the "Jack" character (actually one of his sexual surrogates) getting to nail the ladies for one reason or another, the acting about what could be expected from a cold reading moments after someone without training was handed a script (or told to improvise). Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Raven Alexis

Scene One: McKenzie Lee, a brunette with large implants and a lean body, was up first as she asked Mick Blue where the party was at. The doctor was Tommy Gunn and in a relatively rare scenario for the series, he was seen full out and not just as a stunt dick. The value was less than one might get from the top tier gonzo producers at JJV or Evil Angel but this was more suitable for couples wanting to explore the POV market in a decidedly less hardcore manner, earning a rating of Recommended or better, your mileage varying depending on just how forgiving you are in regards to the weaker scenes. In short then, Jack's POV 16 continued the long history of the series as one of the best POV releases of the genre this year, the high definition version making it even better thanks to the enhanced detail and depth of field but also for smoothing out some of the visual elements not covered quite well enough in the standard definition outing so check it out for all of the players here, not just the featured contract performance.
