Audio/Video Quality: Gritty was presented in the same 1.78:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen color it was shot in by director B. Skow for Vivid using the standard definition MPEG-2 codec in 480 resolution. The flick was shot in 1080i/60 high definition awhile back, though presented in the SD format (for now), in what appeared to be a more intimate setting than some of Skow's works to date. The lighting was well handled and this added to the pleasure of watching the gals in play as the lengthy scenes gave them enough freedom to explore their sexuality. The composition of the camera angles was almost always optimal this time, Skow seeing fit to try and enhance the look of the ladies at every turn as possible, Jack Freedom editing the production with an eye toward an edgier product. The fleshtones were usually accurate too and the DVD mastering was well done (the bitrate hovering around 4.8 Mbps), even if the lighting was off at times (the company watermark will probably be bothersome to many out there as well). The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital English (in 256 Kbps with a 48 kHz sampling rate) offering with the vocals sounding flat and the music pretty decent. The aural qualities of the movie appeared to offer some separation and increased dynamic range, the vocals easily heard and mixed in with the ambient noises as well as music

Body of Review: B. Skow has been keeping a low profile of late but his work at Vivid Entertainment continues to impress those willing to brave it and look for themselves. It always amuses me how a handful of company haters tear at it based on events from years ago, the manner in which they have improved in many ways of late proving such folks wrong. Skow's latest release for the company is a showcase effort called Gritty, the contract hotty known as AJ Bailey getting two full scenes with which to impress her legion of fans. The back cover described the movie like this: "AJ and her all natural, all blonde friends like to fuck in gritty, nasty locations. Alleys, a booth in an old bar, an old desk in an abandoned building, the more ghetto the better. So B. Skow took his camera all over downtown for some of the dirtiest warehouse sex you've ever seen....with four of the hottest girls in porn...and did they ever get down. Gritty...filthy in every sense of the word." Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

In short then, Gritty had Skow walking away from his usual conventions of crisp lighting and clean audio to see what kind of effect he could have going "dirty", the show pleasing enough for a viewing or two but the longevity in doubt by this reviewer.
