Extras: The first extra was a 26:11 minute long Behind the Scenes (part 1) where the director explained the outline of the production before a montage and cast interviews began. There was then an 11:09 minute Blooper Reel, and anti-piracy message from the FSC, a director reel for the director seeking even more awards (quoting Roger, myself, and a few others), and a replay of the DVD introduction for the movie.

Audio/Video Quality: Not M*A*S*H XXX was presented in the same 1.78:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen it was shot in by director Will Ryder for Hustler Video. Unlike any other company in porn though, this was made as a collaborative effort, Will's partner Scott David and others involved in the technical aspects enhancing it in ways the rest of the industry just hasn't been able to imitate; their efforts always centering on a single focal point (usually the director) unlike the guys here at X-Play. This flick was shot in April, the MPEG-2 encoding, the bitrate elevated to reach 4.1 Mbps when checked, and the lighting as perfectly suited as ever. In terms of camerawork and all the visual elements, this was another solid winner too, any minor issues not impacting the production nearly as much as I've seen from the corner-cutters that abound in the industry. A lot of care went into the production, especially casting, and unlike most of the director's sitcums to date, had a slightly muted look indicative of the original series. I did notice that the director has developed an affinity for shooting more POV blowjobs, almost to the point of distraction, but in balance at least it showed he is trying new things. The audio was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital English with a laugh track, the 48 kHz sampling rate and 192 Kbps aural bitrate pretty standard by now. The vocals were nicely mixed into the stereo score, the impact elevating the audio qualities such that it was observed right away, the hopeful trend being to spend more time on this aspect of production by the leaders in the field. The theme music was similar enough for my tastes too, sounding close but not too close, courtesy of Ryder and Rock, known experts in the field.

Body of Review: Will Ryder & Scott David have led the recent porn parody craze inspiring the industry, routinely wiping out all competition with their works distributed by Hustler Video. In recent times, a few others have made major inroads to close the gap but it often strikes me that the duo at X-Play have the golden touch all others seek to emulate. Their latest sitcum parody is called Not M*A*S*H XXX, this time paying homage to the long running television show about the Korean War, itself a spinoff from a well received anti-war movie. Fans of the show will be happy to know that certain key characters were especially well cast, including Eric Swiss as Hawkeye, Krissy Lynn as Hotlips, Alec Knight as Frank Burns, and Jeremy Conway as Radar. They might also be happy to know that newcomer sensation Chanel Preston played a key role sexually, Krissy Lynn was really into the role, and the other ladies appeared to be better cast than most tend to be in such roles. The back cover described the movie like this: "Colonel Blake begs Hawkeye & Trapper to find a nurse to deflower Radar but nobody volunteers so they offer an unauthorized boob job as a reward. Majors Burns & Houlihan suspect the worst but can't prove a thing as hardcore fucking, cock sucking & pussy eating explode at the 4077th M*A*S*H in this amazing spoof of the 1970s classic TV show." I had my doubts when I saw the original cast listed in the press invite but the last minute replacements were almost all superior in some fashion, the movie doing a good job of portraying the earlier years of the show. Had there been a few more establishing shots outside, a bit dirtier look to the sets (hint: tents don't have concrete floors), and other minor aspects covered in more detail, I have no doubt some loyal fans would be wondering if this was indeed a "lost episode" but I cannot fault Ryder and Scott for doing a superior job with this title compared to what their peers would have presented. In short, Not M*A*S*H XXX continues the winning streak for the folks at X-Play as the various elements of the production were sewn together coherently, enhanced by the efforts of sexy babes like Chanel Preston and Krissy Lynn as much as any of the nods to the original show.
