Extras: The best extra for new fans of the series will be the 19:49 minute long bonus scene by Julia Ann and Manuel Ferrara from Big Wet Asses 15 in high definition. I described it below in detail for those that missed it, the scene certainly a heated one thanks to the wonderful heat and chemistry between the couple. The only other good extra this time was the 4:06 minute long Behind the Scenes feature where the ladies had a chance to discuss the project and show some flesh. Otherwise, there were three trailers, a photogallery, and a cumshot recap but that was all.

Audio/Video Quality: Big Wet Asses 17 was presented in the usual 1.78:1 ratio widescreen color as shot by director William H. Nutsack for Elegant Angel using the standard definition VC-1 codec with 1080p resolution. The lighting was good as expected and helped minimize the grain & video noise, the sharp clarity of the production beating out some of the high definition blu-ray titles released by the competition. The composition of the shots always favored the ladies, rarely chopping off their heads in a frame or missing out on significant portions of the action. The editing was a bit better this time though a few of the edits by Robert Laplanc were too abrupt or noticeable but part of that might be due to what kind of footage was presented. I saw no compression artifacts although the bitrate varied substantially, often seeming to be in the 1512 Mbps range. The audio was presented in the usual 2.0 Dolby Digital English using the 256 Kbps bitrate (and 48 kHz sampling rate), the separation was nonexistent and the dynamic range limited but at least the vocals could be heard most of the time (as could some background noise). The music from Mybeatshop and the company archives were solid enough for the scenes themselves but the action just did not always fit as nicely as possible so the aural work could have been polished up a little more.

Body of Review: William H. Nutsack and his work at Elegant Angel need no introduction in the porn circles I travel due to the exceptionally high quality of his works over the last several years. His biggest and best series for many folks, a flagship title in some ways, has been his "Big Wet Asses" offering released at least once a year to a huge audience, the heated debates over what performers should partake of the BWA experience often requiring moderation using a heavy hand. Well, the latest volume of the series, Big Wet Asses 17, is out and the big selling point here is that popular Jayden Jaymes and Katie St. Ives finally gave up the ass, their various coworkers including Mason Moore, Ashli Orion, and Brooke Lee Adams. Even as a huge fan of the series for years, I couldn't care less about a "first anal" but both Jayden Jaymes and Katie St. Ives have been so hot in their regular work that the premise did provide an extra incentive to check this one out for me. The company website described the show like this: "Big Wet Asses, the winner of AVN's coveted Best Anal Themed Series award for 2006, 2007, & 2008, is back! The quick version of this upgrade review is to say that fans equipped with high definition gear will definitely want to upgrade to this Blu-ray version given the enhanced visual elements.  Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

In short then, Big Wet Asses 17, like Big Wet Asses 16 before it, still had gals teasing while getting oiled up, still had some sexy anal action worth checking out, and still had all the usual elements, offering enough spank bank material to last most men a very long time.  The bottom line here, no pun intended, was that the visual elements were upgraded enough that I came close to raising the score a notch, this high definition Blu-ray edition certainly well worth your time, money, and seed.
