Extras: The first disc had a cast list but that was all. Audio/Video Quality: California Anal Girls was presented in a visually appealing anamorphic widescreen color using an aspect ratio of 1.78:1 as shot by director Mike Adriano for Evil Angel using the MPEG-2 codec employed by standard definition releases. The scenes were all shot with basic lighting to eliminate any shadows, texture, or hints of color variations. The set up was simple with the basic tease, then Mike would join in for various forms of intercourse (a strong emphasis on anal too), all in some form of point of view fashion. The grain was minimal as was the video noise, the director trying to provide a basic porn experience here rather than cultivate favorable press by use of silly special effects. It was far from perfect but this did enhance the replay value for me as it showed more care than usual, fans of well rounded women certain to appreciate it. The bitrate tended to hover around the 4.9 Mbps area most of the time I paid any attention to it but the numbers alone do not tell the whole story in this regard, the basic editing not really doing much with the footage that I could see but then I don't have access to the raw footage to make a definitive statement. The audio was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital English using the standard 192 Kbps rate using a 48 kHz sampling rate most titles are mastered with. There wasn’t much to talk about aurally speaking though, the tease portion of the scenes employed music but the rest of the show was fairly easy to hear the vocals even if it sounded like a home camera shot them.

There was a lot to appreciate here even if the rough edges needed some technical polishing up, the package as solid as his usual fare.

Mike brings a devotion to ass that few of his peers still possess in their scenes, his personal undertaking to get all the ladies off if at all possible helping to make this a winner. In short, California Anal Girls: Special Set was exactly what a fan might expect of the director, a double disc extravaganza full of anal antics, POV photography (but not a slave to it, hence the “POV+” label on the front cover), gals with shapely asses willing to engage in all sorts of depraved circus act sex. Kaycee Brooks, Seda, and Charisma Cappelli were the best of the batch for me here but all the ladies shined to a degree, their anal antics not coming across as just sex for pay. Otherwise, with five hours of high end gonzo anal banging and another almost 90 minutes of heated oral bonus scenes, this was a fun fuck flick worth checking out, nearly meriting a higher rating so give it a look.
