Audio/Video Quality: Bobbi Starr’s One was presented in a stark 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen as directed by Bobbi Starr for Evil Angel(under their Buttman Magazine Choice line). The video bitrate of the production varied a lot but was rarely a factor, the edge enhancement and other minor flaws not generally hurting the look of the production. The lighting was changed in each scene and the artistic leaning on each scene left me wondering if a more straightforward approach (as other companies have done lately) might have worked better for the stroke flick. Still, it was a lot of solo fuck for the buck, the addition of a single dose of genetic juice (population pudding, spunk, splooge, or whatever else you prefer to call it) courtesy of cameraman Nate Liquor a change of pace. The audio was basic too, the 2.0 Dolby Digital offering using the usual 192 Kbps bitrate and sounding rather generic, though some of the music was okay when applied. As I greatly prefer vocals over music, I admit that this worked better for me when the audio was turned down in the many parts where the music dominated.

Body of Review: Bobbi Starr may be the newest director at Evil Angel but she is no newcomer to hardcore smut. The show is a series of female solo masturbation scenes using kinky settings or fetishes to add some flavor to the production, Bobbi joined by Asa Akira, Tori Lux, Julie Night, and others in scenes of varying quality. The company website described the show like this: “Fresh smut director Bobbi Starr is again venturing into new territory - redefining the solo masturbation video! This traditionally soft genre of adult entertainment has been dealt a shockingly hardcore twist. Scene One: Asa Akira, a popular Asian babe, was up first in very heavy makeup and latex lingerie. She was located in a bare, white-bricked room with all sorts of camera tricks deployed. There were times this scene worked for me but certainly not always.

Scene Six: Bobbi Starr, the ever popular extreme queen, then finished up the production wearing an assortment of fetish attire, ending with the one featured on the front cover. She spent most of her time jamming objects into her ass (no surprise there) and did so erotically, showing a sense of self satisfaction that was not as common in the various scenes as I would have liked. Her control of her sphincter muscles was displayed and the facial expressions she gave enhanced the dynamic that she was having fun, the sheer size of the toys used coming across as stunts rather than what she would really use in her private life. Still, the idea of her getting off believably did appear and she did try for something different as she claimed she would, your mileage varying as a result.

Summary: Bobbi Starr’s One by director Bobbi Starr for Evil Angel was all over the map on technical as well as thematic levels for me. The effects, overuse of music in so many scenes, and the emphasis on toys lowered the overall value for me in some ways since it came off more like performance art rather than strokable porn so the best I could rate this one was as a qualified Rent It (and I like Bobbi’s works to date). I had little doubt that the women selected what they wanted to do but the way it was captured and presented just did not work for me so check it out before spending much money. In short, Bobbi Starr’s One seemed almost as if she felt compelled to go outside her comfort zone in terms of what was offered, the choppy presentation of the scenes (such as abruptly jumping from one section in a scene to another without warning) not helping it either. I still look forward to seeing Bobbi’s next work with partners and sticking closer to the beaten path but this one was a decidedly different package of female solo scenes that might work better for others.
