Audio/Video Quality: These Things We Do was presented in a crisp, anamorphic widescreen as shot by director B. Skow for Girlfriends Films under their Skow Digital line. Skow, Mike Towers, and PP Peru worked the cameras and the editing by Sonny Malone was quite good. David Stanley wrote the minimalist screenplay, his darker side always held in high regard by the director. Technically, it looked a lot like one of those low budget features shot when porn transitioned from film to video, few attempts made to expand the vision of depth of the camera and add realism to the feature elements. The stereo aural aspects of the movie were nicely done, the vocals easily understood, the moody music impacting the quality of production in a good way.

Body of Review: B. Skow is the most renowned director at Girlfriends Films, his distribution deal a winner for both parties. His latest flick is called These Things We Do, another dark drama courtesy of writer David Stanley (a troubled but intelligent man) starring ladies such as Siri, Marie McCray, Dana DeArmond, and Kimber Day. My first impression going in was that the movie was definitely more focused than some of the creative team’s recent works, maintaining the darker vision of “something we couldn’t do at Vivid” yet applying a great deal of care to the sexual tension displayed in the scenes. The control and domination issues were not as pronounced as those in the last movie I reviewed (Damsels in Distress) but the writing and technical aspects were certainly on par with Skow’s best works. Without giving away too much, suffice it to say that the sex was heated and the thematic elements were very well done, some bold moves noticed such as the intriguing front cover featuring Alan Stafford rather than the ladies of the cast.

The back cover described the movie like this: “A psychiatrist who uses his practice to sexually torment his patients, enters into a dark, sexual underworld with his most depraved patient, a seemingly sweet young woman with a taste for control, fear and pain. With her, he will confront the sins and pain of his own past, including the betrayal of his long suffering wife and his involvement in the death of her sister, a patient who he drove mad. And in so doing, he will find that pain is the greatest pleasure there is!” The company press release for the production said this: ““These Things We Do” is now available on DVD from Skow for Girlfriends Films, as the newest entry to AVN’s 2014 Best New Line of boundary-pushing boy/girl sex features. The erotic thriller, directed by the award winning B. Skow, takes viewers through a world of psychiatry, kink, fetish, and sex. “These Things We Do” follows a young psychiatrist who uses his practice to sexually torment his patients. During the course of his abusive treatments, he enters a dark, sexual underworld with his most depraved patient, a seemingly sweet young woman with a taste for control, fear, and pain. This is such a complex film, and our stars nailed it.” “These Things We Do” is the most recent release from Skow for Girlfriends Films, named Best New Line at the 2014 AVN Awards. The line of boy/girl feature movies from Girlfriends Films is overseen by B. Skow, who AVN Media Network dubbed the “most prolific” director of the past year. The label showcases B. Skow’s diverse work, which includes comedic and dramatic features, couples films, vignette projects, and hardcore gonzo movies. Girlfriends Films President Moose says, “Being named Best New Line truly speaks to the impact Skow for Girlfriends Films has made on the market, as well as the kind of work B. Skow continues to produce. Each new release of his somehow manages to top the last, which is hard to do considering the quality of his movies.”” Here’s a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Scene One: Kimber Day, a sexy little lady with kinky hair and a smoking hot body, the young gal laying on the couch as she challenged her shrink, played by Alan Stafford, regarding his proclivity to jerk off while listening to her problems. Scene Two: Bailey Blue, Siri, and Steven St. Croix were up next as redheaded Siri described a past situation that led to her gaining a better understanding of power and control play. Siri thought she was playing “Captain Save A Ho” by rescuing blond Bailey but as she soon found out, the gal did not want to be rescued at all since she was enjoying Steven’s abuse. By the time Dana stuffed her face between Siri’s luxurious ass cheeks to enjoy her fully, it was clear that a role reversal had taken place, both of the ladies quite frisky as they rubbed their boxes together and kissed, Siri reaching over to jerk off Alan as Dana fingered her from behind, the wealth of spunk building up not allowed release this time.

Scene Four: Marie McCray and Alan Stafford were up last after a brief interlude between Siri and the guys, Dana walking in to take Alan to task for his shitty treatment of a patient that led to tragic consequences. Marie was then paired off with him in bed, his humanity tested when she reversed roles with him by nearly choking him out when she caught him unawares. Marie gave him a revelation as she strangled him too, the energy generated turning sexual in moments. She jerked him off as he played with her tits, Marie inhaling his turgid rod orally before resuming her hand to gland display of affection. Bonus Scene: Southern Hospitality: Ash Hollywood, Dillion Harper, and Alex Chance, were up first in a lesbian tryst in an old bed. Ash drove the scene almost completely by herself and focused most of her attention on Alex, the fleshier of her two partners, but each of them seemed to gobble some gash and savor the taste of ass this time. About midway through the action, Dillion bolted to allow her peers to continue too, still, the result was strokable lesbian fun. Ash and Alex tribbed each other and the juices flowed freely, more 69 work allowing both to get off at the same time.

Summary: These Things We Do by director B. Skow for Girlfriends Films was easily worth a rating of Recommended or better thanks to the heated sexual trysts and the thematic elements handled so well. There was a lot of potential for this one to lose itself in darker themes but it was balanced out nicely, the characters addressing various concerns throughout the movie. Sexually, the ladies all worked wonders in their parts too, from fleshy Siri to established Dana or newcomer Kimber Day, there was plenty of strokable replay offered up to appreciate. In short though, These Things We Do should appeal to a larger audience than some of Skow & Stanley’s recent endeavors, the story and sex worked together in ways that are not common for quickly shot pornos, making the flick that much more impressive overall. Also of interest were the numerous sexual clips added in that were not counted as formal scenes, some of them intriguing enough to make me wish they were fleshed out as all new bonus scenes but contributing to the value of the show as a whole nonetheless.
