Audio/Video Quality: Crave: Season One was presented in a crisp anamorphic widescreen offering as shot by directors Jakodema and Francois Clousot for Digital Playground. Francois was the lead camera man and Jakodema wrote the show but Baka, Alex Tea, Tiagon, Tommy Banana, and Billy Da Kid were also credited with working cameras, Joey Pulgadas and Keethan Hawke handling editing, and a large group of others providing their own technical assistance. There was a lot of texture and variation of lighting, like a “real” series instead of a porno with warehouse lighting, making it visually more appealing though some of the trysts could have used more lighting (my preference). The aural qualities by Seth Cardigan were modest but presented in a post production added 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround, the elevated bit rate of 448 Kbps not hurting the ability to hear the vocals, some pretty good music included though it wasn’t credited to anyone.

Body of Review: Digital Playground was once the biggest powerhouse of feature porn in the entire industry, its contract performers and directors routinely spanking all competition so often that any meaningful comparisons to the runner up companies had to be prefaced with something like “after DP…”. Thanks to piracy and tube sites, the profit margin to make better porn is largely gone now, no mysteries about who the main drivers of that have been, but every once in awhile a company will still surprise me with something good. Such was the case with directors Francois Clousot and Jakodema coming out with a web series called Crave: Season One, now released on a double disc set. The show had eight episodes of varying lengths and reminded me, in form at least, of Stagliano’s “Voracious” series so many find to be the pinnacle of porn web soap operas. The story was about gangs and free love among the young, the show lacking a bit of depth but serving as a solid template for future efforts (like Swans of LA, review forthcoming), Xander Corvus and Dani Daniels truly making it work along with a fine cast including Madison Ivy, Anikka Albrite and others. I don’t want to spoil the feature elements but they were handled quite well in most ways, enough screen time devoted to fleshing some aspects out as can be expected.

The back cover said: “Years of peace on the streets have allowed Xander Corvus’ West Side gang to live like kings – taking whatever or whomever they want, whenever they want. They live fast and fuck hard, but when a rival gang moves in on their turf, their resolve to protect their kingdom is put to the test. Despite the chaos, Xander meets Dani Daniels, an innocent faced beauty with a killer body. Retribution needs to be paid, and Xander is ready to bring hell down upon all who stand in his way.” Here’s a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Sexually, it was a bit vanilla most of the time and true sexual tension was not a consistent factor here but I still thought it merited a rating of Recommended or better, the nearly 4 hours of entertainment value offering skimpy extras but a double disc of 8 episodes I think many will enjoy. In short, Crave: Season One was reminiscent of those late night adult shows seen on premium cable channels (Cinemax, for example) just with more explicit sex and tighter production values so give it a look and see what the buzz is all about.
