Audio/Video Quality: Kayden Kross’ Casting Couch was presented in widescreen as credited to director Kayden Kross for Airerose. The camera appeared to be placed on a tripod during the opening interviews for each scene, the framing fine as long as the ladies were not moving around, then during the very short tease sessions, music would play and the camera work was all over the map before thesex portion of a scene where Manuel would shot much of the footage in POV fashion or place the camera down on furniture like he does in his RAW series elsewhere. The editing needed more polish and I would have preferred a more polished look to the bulk of the camera work, the flesh tones were often accurate when the lighting was good but they did vary accordingly. The video bitrate varied quite a bit too, the show looking fine when I was capturing pictures on my computer but on the big screen, there were noticable compression artifacts on a regular basis. The resolution was the expected 720 by 480, enough light in most cases that when Kayden would zoom in during an interview, there was a lot of detail even if that was not the case during the sex. At least there was no company watermark. The audio was another matter altogether, the interviews and tease on opposing channels of the coded stereo mix (interview solely on the left channel then the music for the tease solely on the right, the sound coming from the right channel during the sex too, part of the DVD coded in LPCM and other parts in AC3, the standard 48 kHz sampling rate applied but generally weaker than average (I spot tested it using stereo headphones when my surround sound speakers scared me into thinking something was broken).

Body of Review: Kayden Kross is an attractive blond bombshell who made a name for herself as a performer under various contracts, the gal helping her husband on a few movies of late to pick up some directing tips. As such, her limited body of work behind the camera is tough to rate properly, the gal now trying to stand out by directing for Airerose. In her first movie for the company (noting the awards on the front cover were from other company efforts completely unrelated to this one), a new flick called Kayden Kross’ Casting Couch, Kayden presents four fairly new performers as they worked with Kayden’s husband Manuel Ferrara, a guy I frequently champion as the best male performer of anyone currently in the jizz biz. That fact alone already gave me hope over the scores of titles where corners were cut by using lesser male mopes, Manuel long established as bringing out the best in the ladies he works with. Newcomers tend to be weak performers most of the time though so even this upgrade was no guarantee of success but Kayden followed a common formula, each performer allowed some freedom to make it or break it on their own. As such, even though the interviews were incorporated into the scenes in a manner many of us critics dislike, preferring them separate in the extras section, I went into it with an open mind but not an empty head.

Scene One: Tomi Taylor, the attractive young lady featured on the front cover, was up first seated on the gray couch as she was interviewed by Kayden, the IAFD listing her as having 14 credits so far. I’d prefer longer tease sessions and better extras in the future but my concerns regarding the exclusive use of newcomers were allayed courtesy of Manuel in each scene, the movie meriting a solid rating of Recommended. In short, Kayden Kross’ Casting Couch showed that Kylie Nicole, Elektra Rose, Tomi Taylor, and Lacey Channing have a great deal of potential, none of them in more than a couple dozen releases at this writing so go check this one out.
