XCritic Interview: Crystal Rush

At 5’3 and 113 pounds, Crystal Rush is a girl who proves that big things come in small packages—in more ways than one! The petite beauty became an international sensation ever since her debut shoot in Russia, and she’s showing no signs of stopping anytime soon. 

The way she carries herself makes her an exotic, mysterious performer who just leaves everyone curious about what secrets she holds. I absolutely wanted to know more about Crystal, and how she does what she does. James Bartholet was kind enough to help me interview her. Here’s what she ended up telling me…

Ossiana Tepfenhart: Thank you so much for interviewing with me, Crystal! Let’s start off with a classic question. How did you get started?

Crystal Rush: You know, when I was a teenager, I was watching porn and videos. The first video that really moved me was a fivesome video, three men and two women. I was very curious about it and I started to wonder what it would be like. After seven or eight years, I found a producer who wanted to do a porn shoot nearby and I started.

So you found an ad and just started? 

Oh, yeah. It was a short story. I found what I wanted. Russian work is very different than American work, so I had to work my way up step by step. I had a lot of fans, and my agent brought me into Europe. Then, I went to the States. 

You were able to go from Russia to Europe, to the United States where you now have thousands upon thousands of fans. That’s the dream! What was it like shooting adult films in Russia? What was the biggest difference between Russian porn and American porn shoots?

It’s different because nobody told me that I could start with solo, boy-girl...I just got information of what to do and it was anal. And solo. My first video was anal. Russian porn is done with a little focus on anal. 

So you just jumped into the more hardcore stuff. 

Yes! I actually had to learn how to have anal sex for porn. I tried it before but it didn’t work out. One of the things I love about doing porn was not just that I got to have money and travel. I also get what it is to experience real pleasure from anal. 

As someone who is still learning to love their backdoor, I only recently had my first anal orgasm. I totally get it now. 

I always think that people who work in porn are more professional. Like, when you say yes and you go to do it, you know you’re having fun. 

I definitely noticed that. I noticed people who work in the porn and sex industry are a lot more mature about sex and discovery as a whole. 

Yes! You know, aside from my boyfriend and my friends in porn, I feel like people don’t really know about sex and how to approach it. It’s about the woman, it’s about the man, you got to realize it’s more than just that. It’s like 20 percent know how to fuck. 

That’s why I prefer to have sex with my boyfriend and porn professionals. It’s way more pleasurable overall. 

Now I know you’re Russian. I’m Romanian myself. I’m very well acquainted What’s your favorite Eastern European cuisine? 

Borscht, pelmeni, just really simple stuff. 

I just had borscht and vareniki at a banya. 

Oh, it’s good food, but it will put you to sleep. If you eat too much you have to work out more. 

What do you do in your spare time? 

It depends on the company. If my boyfriend is calling, I’m going to stay home and relax. If I’m traveling, I like to travel to the ocean and exercise. I like to go hiking. Once in a while, I’ll go to museums or art places...It’s all fun. 

You’re definitely a fan of exploration, that’s for sure! What’s your favorite country to visit?

I love Budapest and Hungary! Budapest is the capital of the European porn industry, and the streets are so beautiful. You can always find go walking, find nice restaurants, and just see so many things to enjoy. I really love old towns, old Europe, where you can see history. I also love the Czech Republic and Madrid. 

Every country in Europe has its own character that makes me want to see it. I haven’t been to Asia, so I don’t know much about there.

There’s a first time for everything. 

There is always a first time for everything! Even if you’re 80, you can still have a first time doing things. It’s what life is all about. 

What are some of the adult shoots you want to try next?

Oh, well...Actually, I wanted to say I did it all, but that isn’t true! Just a few months ago, I tried some new thriller porn.

What?

Thriller porn. There was drama and porn, with acting and a script. I found that to be very interesting and way more engaging than typical porn. There were very talented women that I worked with on this project. I want to try more of that. 

I heard about this trend and I’m very intrigued. I feel like more people are into the writing than they used to be. 

Absolutely. Psychological porn is very interesting to me. I’m sure, at least for me, I like to think about the situation and circumstances behind it. When you see real stories and people, it becomes a lot deeper. And yes, you can really see yourself there. It makes it way easier to get turned on. 

Dramatic porn has been taking off with both men and women, yes. They have feminist porn, too, with real couples. 

Oh? 

Yes, they have real couples, all shapes and sizes, and there’s no crazy positions. They just go at it, like even missionary style, and people watch it, and it’s been increasingly popular. 

Oh yes! I can see the appeal in that. When you see real couples and real porn it goes a little deeper and it shows what real sex looks like. It’s the psychological thing! I don’t know why, but when I see men and women together as a real couple, it’s so hot. Seeing people doing it because they genuinely like each other...oh yeah, that’s sexy. 

That’s probably going to be the newest wave of porn. Let’s go back to traditional porn. What’s the most unrealistic aspect of traditional porn?

Oh, I think is everything that goes up with anal. I don’t know if people would allow something so large without proper prep.

I think it’s the script. “Oh hey, I’m a pizza guy, we’re having sex now!”

Haha, yes! A lot of porn stars have a joke on set where we actually do order pizza. They want to order food. Oh, let’s order pizza! When the pizza guy shows up we offer to sleep with him. Most of the time, they say, “NO NO NO!” The delivery guy just runs away after getting paid.

So you actually do prank pizza delivery guys? That’s brilliant!

Sometimes the pizza guy will be with it. Usually, they just usually freeze up and run away after they get their money. 

Really?

The pizza guy goes “Oh, no, they are in porn.” They want to meet porn actresses, but they don’t know how to react when it happens. It is a different thing when it happens to you. They wonder what’s really going on, it’s so unreal.

I’m not going to try to front. When this gets published there will be a massive influx of guys offering time as pizza delivery guys. I answered the door naked to delivery guys and they ran away. I figured that I was scary looking, so…

Oh no, it’s just that it’s so unreal that they don’t know how to reply. It’s a matter of not trusting what’s going out. When it’s real, they want but they don’t know how to react. 

What’s the funniest thing that you’ve had happen on set?

I didn’t have any real, real funny stories. They are funny-cool, but not too hilarious. I once had a guy in Russia, and he was fucking me, and he kept looking at himself in the mirror. After the second position, I couldn’t stop laughing. 

I would have died laughing. 

Oh yeah, it’s saying something. 

I once had a nude shoot with an adult film star and she had G cup breasts. Me being young, I couldn’t come up with anything to say or do and I was giggling like an idiot. 

Haha, sometimes it’s bad. We all laugh!

Do you have any advice for people who want to be in the adult industry? 

Um, be more in charge about your goals and your personality. What are you doing? What are you talking about? Be careful about your participation. Think three times before you join. Many people can’t handle it. It’s not just the shame, it’s a lot of other things. 

This is not the kind of industry you join without a plan. This industry can help you jump high or drag you down. Always have a plan in place. You need to be fucking smart.

This industry isn’t for everyone. Some of my best friends are in the industry, but there are scary people in this scene. You never know who wants to take advantage of you. You have to be strong and smart to survive. 

Yes, you have to be strong and smart. You need to look before you leap. People will always tell you what to do, but won’t listen. It’s a good idea to be in charge of your acts. 

I want to point out that you are very more career and business-oriented when it comes to presenting yourself. You definitely have a long term goal.

Do you feel that business mindset will become more common in the industry, or will people need to get more wakeup calls before they adopt it?

You know, a lot of people like to enter before they understand everything. It seems everything is easy, and it’s easy to fill your workload. When you don’t have patience and look before you enter, you will get burned. 

You need to be patient, you need to have two to five years before you really are able to get your plan in place.
