Extra's: The best extras this time were easily the unrelated bonus scenes from Dangerous Intent, If Looks Could Kill, Key Party, New Love, and Unlovable. These were older than most recent releases by the company but not so old that they all looked crappy (thankfully enough). There was also a photogallery, spam, as well as trailers for movies like Debbie Does Dallas Again, Emperor, Tera Patrick's Fashion Underground, and Casey's Day Off. This was a weaker than usual extras package for the company and without a Behind the Scenes feature (which was credited to Dizzy in the ending credits, a few cute moments between Brea and Shylar amusing the heck out of me); I wonder if something went very wrong on the set.

Audio/Video Quality: Ready, Set, Action was presented in an anamorphic widescreen 1.78:1 ratio offering as shot by director Paul "Chuck Lords" Thomas for Vivid Entertainment. Like some of his more noteworthy titles of late, this one as shot in HD, though presented in the SD format (for now) as shot in 1080i to provide a lot of resolution supporting some of the effects (making it look more like a real movie than just a porno). The lighting was reasonably well handled (with minor exceptions in a few of the scenes that had less lighting or conversely, too much lighting), limiting the grain, video noise, and other distracting flaws seen all too often in porn these days; each vignette appearing to be shot nicely by talented cameraman Ralph Parfait. The composition of the camera angles and lighting were not always optimal this time, the camera spending too little time in the first scene and too long on some of the later establishing shots. The fleshtones were accurate this time and the DVD mastering was well done, making it look pretty solid in terms of visual quality (though perhaps the compression ratio was set too high as the bitrate was averaging about 4.5 Mbps). The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital offering (at 192 Kbps) with the vocals sounding flat and the music pretty decent. For some reason, the levels were mixed lower than usual but aside from the added background noise from doing so, the dynamic range was average and the separation of the vocal track nonexistent.

Body of Review: Paul "Chuck Lords" Thomas may be best known as the lead director for Vivid Entertainment these days but he also seems to have a dry wit as evidenced by many of his comments made at conventions, in BTS features, and according to what was said in the recent Showtime reality show of the infamous Debbie Does Dallas Again production. Still, while not always getting to work on big budget features, he occasionally makes a quickie that I really like, as was the case with Ready, Set, Action. The movie was the debut of hotty contract gal Brea Lynn, a busty brunette that I've been told will make me forget all about Lanny Barbie and others working at the company; a claim I rolled my eyes over when I first heard it (yeah, I like Lanny a whole lot and have no problems admitting it). As a debut, I didn't think she'd figure in so much but she was involved with every scene, doing solo work, some lesbian action, and not shying away from the meaty manhood of the guys here, showing me that she was not going to be another debutante for the haters to complain about. The movie was yet another slice of life on a porn set, an increasingly common theme at Vivid and one I can't really fuss about as it was simplicity itself. The back cover said it like this: "A day in porn valley in which the behind the scenes is as hot as the front. Join new Vivid sensation Brea Lynn as she guides you through an afternoon on the set. And it's a day filled with the kind of sex only porn stars have even when the cameras are off. Starting with one hot anal after another. Ready, Set, Action. It's one debut that will have you yelling sequel." In all, I liked the movie more than I would have thought, making me want to see a lot more of Brea in action, a gal that really seems to be capable of living up to her hype (though I'm still ready to run away with Lanny should she call). Here's a quick look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used:

Scene One: Brea Lynn, the exceptionally hot looking brunette featured on the front cover, was up first as she mentally prepared for her first porn shoot by enjoying a little quality time in a solo scene. She pranced around her place naked, diddling herself in the shower for a moment but it was actually way too short to qualify as a scene in my book so don't get all bent out of shape at me for pointing it out.

Scene Two: Darryl Hanah, an appealing looking MILF playing the homeowner, was up next in a full scene with Brea Lynn and Marcos Leon. Initially, Darryl went working on the flattery provided by Marcos (playing one of the production crew), dropping to her knees to suck his trouser trout in a display of appealing flexibility. He reciprocated on her cookie, fingering and eating as though starving for some affection of his own; this going back and forth a few times with the camera too close for comfort. He spent a fair amount of time establishing his role as the grumpy guy in charge (doing an excellent job in the non-sex portions by the way). I'm not a fan of his seething vocals but it fit the role this time and she was an active rider as he tapped that cookie of hers. They warmed up with some decent foreplay, when Jerry and Rucca Page started going at one another in the adjoining bathroom. Summary: Ready, Set, Action by director Paul "Chuck Lords" Thomas for Vivid Entertainment might not have had what I call five scenes of Brea (it would be splitting hairs to tear the final scene into two parts) but she was burning up the small screen with substantial appeal based on more than her beauty and charm alone. Those factors certainly helped elevate her in my mind and had the movie been more ambitious in how it used her, I would have given it a higher rating but the strokability, replay factor, and amounts of fuck for the buck were still high enough to warrant a rating of Recommended or better; a very respectable debut indeed for Brea Lynn. In short, while it can be financially dangerous to bet so heavily on a single performer, Brea and the others made Ready, Set, Action a movie that could easily serve as a stepping stone for the young lady to bigger and better things so whoever brought her to Vivid to sign a contract should probably get a bonus for showing a lot of foresight. Good job!
