Groin Grabbing

One of the more intriguing things
about the new digital medium is the way filmmakers are manipulating it, taking
it and, in the process, redefining the language of film. Over the last decade,
porn has gone from simple set-ups and occasional awkward angles to fluid POV
shots and a real sense of intimacy. Ms. D’Nyle offers all this in her colorful
1.33:1 full screen image. The transfer is terrific, without many of the flaws
we’ve come to expect for the new format (flaring, whiting out). The skintones
are all accurate and the use of light is excellent. Overall this is good looking
hardcore. As for the sound, the music is mostly the same old bump and thump,
and when there’s dialogue, it is easily understood.

Behind the Scenes, That’s It

Aside from the standard sex film
extras – gallery, trailers, website info – we get a decent behind the scenes
featurette. We watch as all the actors prepare for, and towel off from, their
scenes. It is here where we learn of Ray’s new tats, Adriana’s anal fixation,
and Van’s happiness with the casting. All in all, it’s informative and fun, but
that’s about it.

First Impressions:

There is something inherently
interesting about a porn star who drops out of the limelight and heads behind
the camera. The reasons usually differ – burn out, lucky in love, wanting a
family, forging a future – but the most fascinating element is how the one time
mattress master (or mistress) takes their on the job training and applies it to
the medium. There are lots of established male performers who’ve made the jump,
but when it comes to ladies, the reconfiguration seems more difficult. Stormy
Daniels has had some great success, as has Veronica Hart and Candida Royalle.
Now Jewel D’Nyle jumps onto the arena with her own Absolute Jewel line. And as
an example of her work, the awkwardly titled For Once a Whore and Ever a Whore makes a good first impression.
While the sex may not always be sizzling, it’s presented in a manner that
indicates a real knowledge for the upper echelon of the business, as well as a
huge potential for growth. If she stays on this path, this Jewel will
definitely create some gems of her own.

The Sex Scenes:

With each installment playing off
the paid-to-love dynamic, this is pure prostitution fantasy, more or less aimed
at the male side of the transaction. Our studs are all ready to be serviced,
and there is much more balling that blowing here. In fact, the balance between
oral and actual is pretty good. It helps build the eros and prepare us for some
hot hardcore. Occasionally, the actors let Ms. D’Nyle down. They’re just not
into it as much as her camera appears to be. Also, the premise grows a bit
stale by the time Van Damage shows up to get his wiener waxed. The gals’ “I’m
so slutty” routine almost always sounds fake and/or forced.

As one of the better pairings in FOAWAEAW, you’d expect more out of contract
gal Tera and poor old Joey. But something happens about halfway through this
hindered humpathon. We notice that Mr. Ray ain’t disrobing, and the clothing
non-optional element seems strange. Then, the couple only does female dominant
for most of the scene. It also raises questions. Finally, after Joey gains
sexual supremacy and delivers his derivative load, the issues seem more
important than the physical interaction. We later learn that Mr. Ray has gotten
some Jeanine-style body art (his entire right arm is covered in a weird leopard
print pattern) and his director wanted to hide it. Maybe this explains the lax
log jamming.

If you’re looking for a lady that
perfectly encapsulates the FOAWAEAWdynamic, it would be Candy Manson. She looks like the kind of carnal cum-bucket
you’d pick up outside a Whitesnake Concert and fuck just for a laugh. And she
knows it, and plays the part to the hilt. The result is one of the better
moments in the entire movie, a sex scene marginalized by the limited positions
practiced. For a nearly 20 minute installment of boffing, three moves are not
quite enough. Without doggy, or any ass play whatsoever, what starts out fiery
grows flaccid rather quickly.

Everything Scene 2 should have
been is exactly what Scene 3 is. On the downside, the rather unappealing Ms.
Deville and some suitcase pimp are the participants. It’s not that Adriana is
ugly, she’s just the kind of skinny skank the Dirge just can’t get into. Even
when she’s begging for more cock in the ass, it’s like experiencing your next
door neighbor’s nookie proclivities. Still, you got to love the dumper drilling
here. This gal loves shaft in the shitter and pleads for it over and over
again. If you respond to her type, and enjoy some red hot anal, this is the
sequence for you. If not…oh well.

of sex on the disc, Ms. D’Nyle camera does an incredible job of keeping up with
this couple. Since most of the action takes place on a kitchen island, the
tenuous body positioning adds a level of suspense that really spices things up.
Even better, you feel the connection between Van and Staci, much more than in
any other pairing in the film. If all the sequences had been as good as this
one, we’d have some wonderful XXX-citement. As its stands, it’s the exception
that helps overcome the rest of the routine rule.

If you want proof that
ex-actor directors make really good XXX titles, especially female ones, look no
further than the oeuvre of Ms. Jewel D’Nyle. While it’s far from perfect, and
does contain a decided lack of chemistry between the performers most of the
time, the skill and arousal acumen shown by this former fuck and suck fave more
than makes up for it. Easily earning a Recommended rating, For Once a Whore and Ever a Whore stands as a fascinating example
of an artistic work in progress. With time, Jewel will only get better, and
when actors really what a good job she does of showcasing their “talents”
she’ll have some sensational diddling duets. Couples will have nothing but
praise for this rough but restrained hardcore. Therefore, a Cohabitation
Certification is easily awarded. These fictional tramps may pledge their
devotion to the world’s oldest profession, but the only thing guaranteed to
exist “and ever” is Jewel D’Nyle’s career as a filmmaker.
