Extras: The best extra was the 45:38 minute long extended Behind the Scenes feature by Jason Silver where the ladies provided interviews, enjoyed talking about the movie, and showed more nudity. There was some nudity and discussion by the other production crew (and the meat puppets) but the ladies were clearly the focal point of the extra. I thought there was a fair amount of stroke value at times too, some pointed commentary offered by the players in the movie worth checking out. There were trailers, a pop shot compilation from the movie, a photogallery, spam, though lacking a helpful Star Index that labeled the ladies as similar projects have had in the past.

Audio/Video Quality: Dementia V: Learning the Ropes was presented in 1.78:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen color as shot by director Jim Powers for Sin City. It was not among the best looking movies he has shot of late but still well handled on the technical level with the lighting eliminating most grain, video noise, and other minor issues. The thematic elements allowed for a broader range than the last flick of his I reviewed and the raw energy might have still been the focal point but the technical aspects were catered to more diligently as well here. I saw no compression artifacts (though the bitrate for the video was often well below 3 Mbps) and the flesh tones were accurate, making most of the scenes look relatively good by comparison to previous works of this type by Jim. The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital English (at a bitrate of 192 Kbps) and sounded similar to his other recent works; never straying too far from the formula he feels comfortable with. The vocals were hollow at times, rarely sounding properly captured for the movie, but providing the kind of claustrophobic experience needed for this type of show. The use of interesting music wasn't a problem but as expected, it was dubbed in later and as a result the rhythms weren't always quite in synch with the sex; thankfully though, the music was provided by bands like Elite Music Inc, CSS, Trancedence, Studio Cutz, Target Trax, Machine 13, and Zynthetic Harmony; each suited best for a younger audience.

Body of Review: Jim Powers has long been established as the kind of pornographer able to bring something different to his works; often combining raw energy absent in the releases of his peers with a twisted sense of reality that works best when he’s shooting for Sin City or other companies with less restrictive policies concerning BDSM themes. His latest release making it to me was Dementia V: Collector’s Edition, the thematic sequel to Dementia 4, where this time Tory lane was placed in charge of a young debutante (Brooke Scott) whose father (Otto Bauer) wants her properly trained. The back cover said it like this: “Deep within the seedy side of town, where the subculture of the depraved and the perverted hide in the shadows, a beautiful young girl has awakened to find herself in the middle of a twisted sexual nightmare. Sin City presents the story of an infamous underground sex institution, where young women are taken to learn the art of decadent erotic pleasures. An institution where morals and inhibitions are cast to the wind as the once shy and innocent young girls are transformed into wild sexual animals on the prowl for the most intense and perverted experiences ever imagined.” If you want to catch a fuck flick that is heavy on the fuck and light on the flick, you might find this to be a very solid choice to enjoy as the ladies all gave winning performances. Here’s a quick look at the scene’s by cast and action, noting that no condoms were worn in the scenes:

Scene One: Dana DeArmond, playing the first gatekeeper used to prepare hotty blond Brooke Scott (on the front cover at Tory’s feet), with some shaving action before the pair of ladies had some interracial action with Brian Pumper and Nathan Threat outside. The offending pubes of Brooke had to be removed and I see precious little straight edge shaving in porn these days (I’m not pro or against the action) so it made for a change of pace nonetheless. Brooke had most of the oral here and was first to ride the cock, Dana preferring to assist in her maid costume and apply dirty talk while Brooke handled the dicks with her mouth and pussy far more readily. Dana did do some active anal here but it was a passionless ride compared to the sensory overwhelming experience Brooke provided. The scene eventually ended when Dana took the loads to her mouth to cumswap them with Brooke; the population pudding savored by both ladies briefly before the next scene abruptly began.

Scene Two: Tory Lane, Brooke Scott, and Buster Good, were up next as a bound Brooke was subjected to their will; her blindfold and mouth gag depriving her from ideas of adequacy while Tory toyed with her. Scene Five: Tory Lane, the mistress of the entire movie, was up last and as she could be seen on the front cover hovering over Brooke, she was not in a mood to take any shit from Otto Bauer. She considered him to be her final payment for the training of his daughter (played by Brooke) and she wasn’t about to settle for a half hearted performance like most guys in porn seem too willing to offer. Otto tends to be an extremist in how rough he can be with a gal so like his wife, Tory is the perfect choice for his brand of sex; the gal driving him as he ate her out, using her harsh vocals to push his libido before slobbing his knob just as powerfully. She even worshipped his balls before the pair fucked; the vaginal leading to anal where she totally owned him by virtue of her impaling style of bouncing. The varied positions and oral then reduced down to the usual mouth pop; the thematic ending minimal but enough to leave the door open too.

Summary: Dementia V: Learning the Ropes by director Jim Powers for Sin City was another of his edgy features that will cater more to the hardcore raincoater crowd than those of us typically appreciative of features. The casting of the principle roles here, Tory and Brooke in particular, were wise as they worked out so well, the technical values and second disc of extras adding enough stroke value to merit a rating of Recommended. In short, Dementia V: Learning the Ropes, like the twisted Dementia 4, should have enough stroke value and replayability to keep most of you happy despite some minor quirks where a few gals did not truly live up to the potential.
