Extras: The best extra was the 10:05 minute long Behind the Scenes feature by Jamal Johnson, the infamous cousin of Robby D. that reportedly escaped from a mental institution to join the family business. The focus was on Katsuni but since this was one of the comedic styled efforts, the editor (credited as T. Baggs so it could have been anyone working for the company) stole the show. There was nudity and additional sex too, making it a solid effort all around even if far too short. There was also a photogallery, a slide show, and trailers to shows like like Pirates II, Island Fever 4 Blu-Ray, Jack's POV 1 Blu-Ray,Cheerleaders BR, Babysitters BR, Pirates BR, Contract Star BR, and Island Fever 3 BR.

Audio/Video Quality: Katsuni: Minx Blu-Ray was presented in the usual 1.78:1 ratio widescreen color as shot by director Celeste for Digital Playground using the AVC codec with a video bitrate hovering upwards of 28.5 Mbps as often as not. The high end equipment and skilled crew of regulars assisted director of photography Robby to make this release look really sharp; losing the artistic style that doesn't always work so well for me. In fact, the technical matters and solid editing by Kurt Tortcher aside, I would have to point out that Robby's influence on the end result was moderate or more here; a dynamic most have noticed in the past on some of Celeste's works. The lighting was generally solid here, reducing the grain, video noise, and other defects that sometimes arise in making porn on a budget; favoring a clear focus in some cases that I was convinced worked very well. The way the scenes were shot and edited was markedly similar in the scenes; the composition favoring the ladies and looking like Robby had no constraints this time. The high definition look of the show did make a difference regarding the ladies, especially Katsuni looking even better with the additional resolution offered by the Blu-Ray version. The audio was presented in a 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround English using a 448 Kbps bitrate; over twice that of most porn made these days, with a minimalist leaning that seemed unique in most ways to productions outside of the Jack series, with the vocals always dominating the audio track as I like it. There wasn't much separation between the channels, if any outside of the intermittent music, but the ladies were always clearly heard here. Still, the return of the .1 track on the company's audio tracks might help shut up some of the folks that complained about it, despite a relatively similar experience (the bass tended to be a bit deeper but nothing substantially different).

Body of Review: Celeste is the female director at Digital Playground known far and wide for her erotica series that use her impressions of sexuality to fuel fantasies as shot by her main squeeze for the company. While he shoots increasingly hardcore gonzo styled titles, her offerings rely less on the circus act sex or rough material than trying to invoke a specific mood or feeling. Unlike so many in the industry, she clearly loves women and wants to allow them the freedom to explore what gets them off rather than strictly adhere to the formulas that are so easy to shoot. As a result, she gets to put her name on flicks such as Katsuni: Minx Blu-Ray, a showcase look at the contract performer that comes out next month. Katsuni is one of the rarest of ladies in porn too, getting better with time and outlasting scores of the "flavor of the month" performers that so many fans flocked to; showing a staying power based as much on her nasty side as her femininity. She is in three of the six scenes too, so fans will automatically want to pick up a copy for their viewing pleasure. Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

In short, Katsuni: Minx Blu-Ray was a solid showcase for the lovely lady, one of her best in awhile as far as I was concerned, but the other gals proved to live up to their roles too. Had the cost of the production been a bit lower, I'd have likely raised my rating up a notch too, this enhanced high definition version a visual treat for any fan of the lovely Asian contract star here.
