Extras: The only extra I cared for was the 10:52 minute long Behind the Scenes feature by "Tayna Moon" that showed very little going on behind the scenes of making the movie (but it was presented in high definition at least). It jumped around a bit and it was clear that being brand new to porn was not a requirement but there was an effort here to get lesser known newcomers (and I appreciated it too!). I also liked the short, 4:59 minute long documentary "How It All Began" by Clive McLean (RIP) that gave as clear a view of the series as anything I've come across, using an interview with him and clips from a later title in the series made before he passed away so prematurely. There were also trailers for Hustler titles, a slide show, and some spam with the cover sporting a second side that displayed related titles in the series.

Audio/Video Quality: Barely Legal 87 Blu-ray was presented in a fetching 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen color by director Erica McLean for Hustler Videousing the AVC codec; a standard on Blu-Ray discs. My knowledge
of the SD version of the title allows me to compare the two; it lacked the resolution and
purity of fleshtones this version had, the bitrate often hovering in
the mid 25.6 Mbps area compared to less than a third that in the SD
version. The use of video bothers some folks but it suited the nature
of the show far more than film would have and the contrasts were all
enhanced by the high definition approach. There were no obvious
compression artifacts, no grain to speak of, and even in the final
scene at night, I saw no macro-blocking or other issues that pop up;
thanks in no small part to the proper lighting applied here. The
summation of the visuals is that they made the show look better than
ever, my sole complaint being that the composition of the camera angles
and editing, while good, did not seem to be the best way to enhance the
looks of some of the ladies. The gals were all generically lean and
youthful as the series promotes but minor flaws and blemishes did not
seem to be handled as well as some of the older volumes in the series,
relatively minor quibbles considering how much more resolution the new
format offered up for my inspection. The audio was presented in a 2.0
DTS stereo English using a 224 Kbps bitrate at 48 kHz. The vocals on
the scenes were flat and even in most cases, the voice-overs sounding
somewhat warmer in tone, and the minimal music seemed to come from the
stock library used for years by the series. In terms of upgrades then,
the visuals got the largest boost by a wide margin with the aural
capabilities once again cleaned up but only slightly (and in the BTS, I
could barely hear the gals speak on occasion). Still, the vocals were clear in their limited use, be it the narration of the scenes or during the vignettes.

Body of Review: Erica McLean is best known to many people as a director for Hustler Video, having stepped into the mighty big shoes of her husband to helm the ever popular "Barely Legal" series after a myriad of others simply did not work out. Using the approach Clive applied to the show, she sticks to limited setups and youthful ladies, rarely deviating from the formula that worked so well in the past when she was his assistant. Her latest volume in the series is Barely Legal 87 Blu-ray, the highlight babe of the bunch this time being excessively attractive Arianna Armani, the gal just signed by Digital Playground for a contract. The series itself has been around seemingly forever though, both in print and tape before DVD came onto the scene; the emphasis of each scene on the disc being a youthful lady having sex with a man in the form of a vignette as though she had written in to describe a sexual encounter. The appeal of such a formula is that it showcases gals that many viewers have not seen and elegance through simplicity has merit. While there were only five scenes in the movie, all of them had some appeal too so if you like newcomer women, you will almost certainly enjoy this one. Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Scene One: I Love German Sausage: Arianna Armani, the hotty featured on the front cover that looked very much like a youthful version of former babe Julie Meadows, was up first as she portrayed a gal surprised by the porn reading Sascha in her bed. He was a family friend and she checked out what he was reading as well as his manly (hairy) chest before he started pawing her sexy little body. She responded well to his ministrations, the pair kissing and moving into a 69 where both could offer up some oral love to the other, the camera concentrating on her end of the deal for the most part. Her inexperience with a cock in her mouth was kind of refreshing in some ways, Sascha moving to bone her vaginally in several positions where she showed some solid potential for future success. She was an active rider and looked very nubile, the doggy position providing the best look at her form as her ass was high and head was low, her shoulder length hair bandied about wildly. Scene Four: The Bigger, The Better: Jayla Starr, the Asian butterface seen on the top of the right hand series of pictures on the cover, was up next with the massive Lee Stone as she proved how she liked "big things" when they were riding a motorcycle. She looked at the camera too much, breaking the illusion, and really just did not appeal to me at all. The scene ended with a facial pop and some post coital sucking, truncated like all the scenes.

Scene Five: Car Wash Cutie: Jessica Young, the lean gal with an all natural body as seen on the bottom of the right hand side of the cover, was up next as the horny girlfriend of aging lothario Cheyne Collins, washing his car outside to gain his attention. Jessica even did some PTM before the ending facial though she did not swallow any more than the rest of her peers did, the scene okay but not that great of an ending.

Summary: Barely Legal 87 Blu-ray by director Erica McLean for Hustler Video started off fairly well but weakened as things proceeded, the high definition version of the movie meriting a rating of Recommended from me while I gave a slightly lower nod to the worse looking standard definition disc as it made the ladies look substantially weaker. In any case, as I am not the biggest fan of newcomers to begin with, your mileage may vary substantially so check it out if you have enjoyed the series to date. In short, Barely Legal 87 was populated with a bunch of old men banging young gals with limited onscreen experience so if that works for you a whole lot, consider picking up a copy for your own hand to gland pleasure.The high defition treatment was a nice look for the series and as I have mentioned in the past, the added cost of high definition is worth it for the ladies to look much more realistic, especially in this kind of title.
