Extras: The best extra for most of you will be the bonus scene from Chocolate Hood Pussy starring Aaliyah and Rico Strong. I liked the 34:57 minute long Behind the Scenes feature more since it was related to the movie itself but aside from some heated tease footage, there was a lot of editing that could have been done to the show this time. Audio/Video Quality: The Ass Spread was presented in an 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen color presentation as shot by director Brian Pumper for Evil Angel in this 480i resolution, MPEG-2 offering in standard definition. While not the crispest, clearest picture I have seen of late, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the release, the video bitrate hovering around the lower 3.1 Mbps range when I spot checked it but hardly indicative of absolute quality in itself as the basic tenants of lighting were followed, limiting grain and video noise substantially in most cases, still showing some rough edges worth looking at for the future but it looked better than I have been told Brian's stuff generally is credited for with the composition of the camera work enhancing the ladies in most cases. Yeah, the editing needed some polishing up and the shaky camera panned in and out too frequently but it was not "as bad as a home movie" no matter who claims that to be the case. The fleshtones were fairly accurate and with some touching up, I suspect some of Brian's peers at Evil will be asking him for technical help (or at least those he hires). The audio was presented in a standard 2.0 Dolby Digital English had a 192 Kbps bitrate and a 48 kHz sampling rate but there was no separation between the channels and the dynamic range was limited. The vocals were easy to hear but often hollow, the music tending to be truncated to a few spots in the scenes and favoring Brian's ambition as a rapper.

Body of Review: Brian Pumper has been directing porn for some time now, his best distributor being Evil Angel. Unlike his previous company, Brian now has the idea of catering to the fans by providing double disc sets that offer more fuck for the buck. His latest release making it to me last week was The Ass Spread: Special 2 Disc Set and my initial reaction to some of the scenes was that they all had some raw energy and the cast of ladies each had a well rounded rump worth spreading, though it was not his best work given the five scenes making up the gonzo release. The company website described it like this: "Brian Pumper isn't just one of porn's most flamboyant directors, he's also a thoroughly perverted, fetish-loving ass freak beyond compare, and with The Ass Spread he delivers five rousing peeks into his obsessed, anus-centric existence. Vaginal fucking and explicit butt-worship in spades are committed on five luscious young gals - white, black and brown! Chocolate-cheeked Toni Sweet, Latina lust-muppet Rosario Stone and all-American teen blonde Emma Heart are among those spreading their cheeks as wide as humanly possible for the Gapeman's wild, big-dick antics! Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Summary: The Ass Spread by director Brian Pumper for Evil Angel will appeal most to those of you that want to see a lot of asses being spread and generic gonzo sex after that. The adherence to a formula greatly weakened the movie for me as did the lack of anal sex (thematically, it seemed appropriate for them to do anal) and the limited chemistry. The women could have been more active in their scenes too so I rated this one as a Rent It. In general, The Ass Spread: Special 2 Disc Set could have been much better given Brian's past works but at least there was a lot of footage for fans to enjoy, technical limitations and all.
