Extras: The best extra for myself was a 16:40 minute long Bonus Scene of Jenna Haze masturbating on a couch. Let's face it, as the star of the entire show and the primary reason anyone would be buying the double disc set, seeing more of Jenna in action would be the best thing she could offer short of home delivery by herself. There was some anal with a toy and various fingering action, the lovely leading lady showing her experience while still looking far too young. Audio/Video Quality: Anal Academics was presented in an anamorphic widescreen color with an approximate aspect ratio of 1.78:1 as shot by director Jenna Haze for Jules Jordan Video using the MPEG-2 encoding and 480 resolution you would expect of a standard definition title. In order to allow her to participate in most scenes, Jenna hired Van Styles to work the camera and handle the majority of technical matters, infusing her own ideas with his expertise for this sophomore effort that admittedly had some rough edges but was pleasing sexually; something akin to how Belladonna shots her works (just markedly better looking here). The lighting was flat and even most of the time (except some flare ups or stylish attempts at trying new things), still better than that which you'll find in most gonzo porn and topping a few of Van's recent efforts. There was little grain and the fleshtones were even better this time making me think that the HD picture might look even better on one of the newer high resolution formats, but only by a small margin given the look of the ladies thanks to his fine work shooting the scenes (Van Styles also on the editing board here) with the bitrate coming in under the 2.8 Mbps rate most of the time. The composition of the shots was such that the ladies were made to look as good but I really did not think the movie was as polished looking as his own works these days, invoking a different look most of the time despite his dominance on the technical aspects of the movie. The audio was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital English (192 Kbps bitrate with a 48 kHz sampling rate) but there was no separation between the channels and the vocals were on the low side in all but a few circumstances.

Body of Review: Jenna Haze currently holds the enviable position of being the most widely employed performer in porn, one of the few that I describe as a "porn star", and the rare bird given how she needn't lower her rates like the majority of the industry seems forced to do these days. Given her success over the years, the beauty decided it was high time she start taking a more active role in shooting her scenes, the result being the gal making a distribution deal with Jules Jordan Video to become a director/owner like so many men have done. So far, the reports have been mixed in terms of her freshman release but I was given the opportunity to review her second title, Anal Academics: Special Edition, the double disc set providing a solid cast along with the director herself. I know there has been speculation that this is merely another marketing attempt with Jenna the latest credited "director" in the light of Celeste, Aurora Snow, and so many others that do almost nothing while reaping the accolades of the "real" directors out there but given the lengthy BTS feature showing her taking an active role in the production of the movie, something you just don't see when it comes to the fakers. This time, Jenna uses fetish attire, ladies like Alexis Texas, Missy Stone, Kristina Rose, and several others to rev up the engines, the results being better than I anticipated going into it. Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

In short, Anal Academics: Special Edition was a double disc well worth checking out and picking up for your collections, Jenna only just beginning to display a knack for how things work best in a production, boosting her above some longstanding female directors that have always rested on their laurels.
