The latest from alt-porn wunderkid Eon McKai and his Vivid Alt line, Content is a strong collection of five solid scenes shot with a weird sense of humor and an interesting eye for composition. There isn't really a plot at all, despite some interesting introductory bits to each scene, but those who appreciate McKai's style will find a lot to love about this newest endeavor...

Scene One - Kimberly Kane And Mr. Pete: After a bit of prepping and fooling around these two start making out pretty passionately. Kimberly's top comes off and Pete shows her tits some love before she drops down and gives him one of those killer sloppy blowjobs that she's pretty well known for. The feature finds that nice balance between arthouse creativity and hardcore eroticism and each scene builds nicely before going full tilt into the actual penetration scenes. The camera work is going to be a turn off for some, as it's pretty erratic and it doesn't always concentrate on the close up shots that gonzo enthusiasts might require, but this is pretty good stuff and it's at least something a bit more unique than your standard five scene stroke-fest.

The DVD

Video:

This shot on video production looks pretty clean presented here in a reasonably stable 1.85.1 anamorphic widescreen presentation. There is some mild shimmer in a couple of spots and a noticeable bit of mpeg compression evident in some of the darker colors and the blacks but other than that, there's not a lot to complain. Skin tones look nice and natural, the compositions are dead on, and aside from the fact that this digital video production looks like a digital video production and as such suffers from the minor defects usually associated with the format, everything is coming up roses as far as the look of the film is concerned. Any softness that appears on camera, and there's a fair bit of it, seems to be intentional and even if it isn't, it works. Do keep in mind, however, that this movie has a very look to it so if you need your gynecological close ups to be really bright and harshly lit, this might not do it for you.

Sound:

The Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround track is quite sufficient. The dialogue comes through cleanly and clearly as do all of the moans and groans. The guitar driven soundtrack is mixed in properly at a decent level to make sure that we can hear both the music as well as the performers as the same time. Bass response is nice and lively and overall, for a porno movie, this is a way, way better than average effort and it actually sounds really good.

Extras:

The only really substantial extra on the disc is a behind the scenes segment (20:00) where McKai and his cast and crew working it on set. There's some interesting interviews here with the performers as well as with McKai himself that explain what the intent was with this project and which give us a fairly intimate look into what went into making it and getting it finish.

Rounding out the extras are trailers for The Doll Underground, Girls Lie, and On My Dirty Knees, all fine Eon McKai projects and a decent still gallery of promotional shots which is actually worth going through (the stills are pretty great). Animated menus and scene selection are also included.

Final Thoughts:

The extras aren't as impressive as past releases from the line but the sex definitely delivers and Vivid has supplied a well authored disc to house it all on. This won't convert those who don't like McKai's style but his established fanbase will definitely like what he's done here and as such, Content comes recommended.
