Extras: The first disc started off with a commercial for Evolved Novelties (the company sex toy line we like so much at Xcritic) but in the extras section itself, began with a 33:06 minute long lesbian scene starring Stephanie Swift and Francesca Le getting hot & horny on a large bed in black fetish garb. I don't recall seeing this one before and the last time they worked together for the company was in Girlvana 3 in an orgy so this might well be a dedicated scene by the company. There was also a photogallery and some trailers, the 24:44 minute long Behind the Scenes feature adding some depth as the ladies were shown interviewed, getting made up, and showing off for the camera. My favorite bit was Mike explaining what he wanted from the cast, pointing out my long held belief that group scenes make it too difficult to focus (Nate jumping in as well). The second disc also started off with the commercial but both could be skipped easily, the extras section mirroring the first disc in terms of what was offered, the bonus scene this time lasting 25:18 minutes and between Lisa Ann & Ann Marie Rios from Girlvana 4 as described below. The Behind the Scenes feature lasted 23:21 minutes showing the setting to be Kylie Ireland's dungeon loft with Courtney Cummz as the leading lady (in addition to Raylene and Julia Ann).

Audio/Video Quality: Girlvana 5 was presented in a visually appealing anamorphic widescreen color using an aspect ratio of 1.78:1 as shot by director Mike Quasar for Zero Tolerance using the MPEG-2 codec employed by standard definition releases with a 480 resolution. The lighting was strong, eliminating the shadows and grain like most of Mike's works in the past, the overall look straightforward even with a minimal nod to soft focus a few times. The grain was minimal as was the video noise and I commend the company for upgrading to some high end cameras awhile back, the enhancement assisting Mike in providing some of the best looking smut around. The bitrate tended to hover around the 6.2 Mbps mark most of the time I paid any attention to it and this helped elevate the production a notch in my book. The composition of the scenes enhanced the look of the ladies, each of them finding Mike's technical expertise matching the right look to make them look their best. The sole audio track was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital English using the standard 256 Kbps rate using a 48 kHz sampling rate most titles are mastered with, the aural experience fairly limited due to the nature of the gonzo shoot. There was also no separation between the channels and the dynamic range was as truncated as ever, standard gonzo audio being okay for most consumers. Each disc had a separate score, the pool party being lighter and more upbeat while the dungeon scene sounding darker and more ominous, to that extent, it was clear someone paid attention to the aural components of the production even if they were on the generic side.

Body of Review: Mike Quasar is one of my favorite directors not just at Zero Tolerance, but elsewhere as well. 2009 was a bonanza year for him in terms of stretching out, some of his best work tied to the Pop Porn people which resulted in AVN nominations for all concerned. His latest movie coming my way was Girlvana 5, the double disc sequel to Girlvana 4 I enjoyed last year. Once again, Mike went out of his way to shoot what could be described as two lesbian orgies, this time separating the casts into a pool party gathering and a dungeon scene, each led by world famous hotties Julia Ann and Raylene. With no genetic juice, population pudding, or lower tiered male mopes in sight, the ladies playfully engaged one another sexually in all the usual ways, the amount of oral and caressing with kissing a welcome change of pace for me. The back cover described the double disc set like this: "The award-winning Girlvana series returns with another 2-Disc masterpiece. In this installment, perennial fan favorites Julia Ann and Raylene lead an all-pussy parade of sex-starved sluts through a decadent display of dick-less action. With an All-Girl Pool Party, where everyone gets wet and dives into their parner's deep ends ... to an evening of nightclub naughtiness ... to an outrageous, orgasm-filled orgy - everyone's 'female only' fantasies become realized! With a never-ending array of toys, tongues, and twats, XXX's sexiest stars bring you to the heavenly and horny state of Girlvana!" Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

On disc one, the first half of the movie took place by a large swimming pool outside on a sunny day. The initial guise by which the viewer is introduced is that Raylene and Julia Ann are in need of some fun, the gals eschewing the usual mopes and genetic juice in favor of a bunch of women having a leisurely time with one another. The lighting was perfect (although, perhaps too bright in a few rare instances) and it allowed the ladies to look their best as Mike and crew captured them with their high end equipment, most of the footage showing the ladies pairing off in twos or threes as they caressed, ate, and kissed one another. Given the commercial at the beginning of the movie, I'm almost surprised there wasn't much more extensive use of toys by Evolved Novelties, but it contributed to the atmosphere of the action significantly. The ladies engaging in or on the periphery of the action included Julia Ann, Raylene, Sara Sloane, Monique Alexander, Brynn Tyler, Charley Chase, Georgia Jones, Madelyn Marie, Louisa Lanewood, Stephanie Swift, Missy Stone, Sophia Santi, Velicity Von, Bridgette B., Taylor Scott, Amber Ashlee, Jackie Daniels, Cherry Ferretti, and Leah.

Okay, the first disc was as complete a lesbian orgy (maybe better referred to as a group grope since most of the ladies only traded partners a limited amount and other than the leads) appeared to just be allowed to kick back and have fun but the second disc changed all of that when Raylene and Julia Ann went to the darker side of lesbian action in Kylie Ireland's dungeon loft for a bit of hardcore fun. As with previous volumes of the series, the two discs are usually thematically differentiated and this was no exception. Rather than pair off blondes with each other against brunettes, this time the idea centered on the bright, sunny pool versus the darker, nastier sex found in the dungeon. There seemed to be more tattoos this time but for me, I noticed that the ladies were more driven, more enthusiastic, and had more energy (if not a modicum more of chemistry too). Granted, some of that was due to the manner in which Kylie herself stepped up to the plate but also Courtney Cummz, both women adding a decadent feel to what took place as they made the scene their own. This time, the penetration was harder, meaning more fingers and more anal play, Jayden Jaymes another one adding some spice to the day. As with the first scene, Raylene and Julia Ann were clearly focal points and as with the first scene, using multiple cameras elevated my appreciation for the end product. The performers this time were Julia Ann, Raylene, Kylie Ireland, Courtney Cummz, Jayden Jaymes, Alyssa Reece, Lux Kassidy, Nikki Rhodes, Lexi Stone, Kirra Lynne, Kyanna Lee, Regan Reese, Kim Kennedy, Cali Haze, Emy Reyes, and Skyla Paige (though a handful of gals stood around like lumps all too often).

Bonus Scene #2: Girlvana 4: Lisa Ann (the brunette sitting on the middle of the cover), playing the MILF teacher that used her position to coerce her students to have sex with her, was up next as she singled out sweet Ann Marie Rios to become her latest conquest. These two gals are really well suited to work together and Ann was surprisingly aggressive here even though Lisa was in charge the whole time, some spanking on the teacher's desk with a ruler providing extra stroke value as Ann topped from the bottom (a very reddened bottom by the time they were finished). The extensive titty play and passionate kissing was another step forward in the movie's dynamic, certainly better than the similar scene on the first disc as this pair proved to be into each other a whole lot more. Ann wanted Lisa as much as Lisa wanted Ann, the younger gal nearly managing to turn the tables on her mentor. There were no toys and the face sitting gave me chills, both gals giving as well as they received throughout the heated little romp. Yes!

Summary: Girlvana 5 by director Mike Quasar for Zero Tolerance had a lot of lesbian fuck for the buck, never going as all out extreme as stuff shot by Belladonna, Jake Malone, or Mason but adding replay value and strokability for those of us that prefer women getting off by having fun over trying to outdo each other in extreme queen fashion so I rated it as Highly Recommended. In short then, Girlvana 5 was a lot like Girlvana 4 in terms of offering up two awards-ready lesbian group scenes, enough of the women into each other to keep it in my collection for a long, hard time.
