Audio/Video Quality: Batman XXX was presented in anamorphic widescreen using a 1.78:1 aspect ratio as shot by director Axel Braun for Vivid. Using the MPEG-2 codec, the resolution was far from optimal but the colors mirrored the original television series from the 1960's fairly well, the production definitely an upgrade from his hastily put together sitcums of the last few years on several levels. The grain was manageable, the lighting tailored to accentuate the comedic elements as well as the sex in most cases, and the video bitrate tended to hover around the 5.5 Mbps mark when observed. Some attempt to capture aspects of the original in terms of camera angles was made and the result of the care taken was to make this a very pleasing parody on a technical basis. The editing was decent though not award winning and the likelihood of a Blu-ray version upgrade taking advantage of the format's enhanced look is pretty solid if Vivid wants to become a contender in the genre. The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital English, sporting an aural bitrate of 256 Kbps, the usual 48 kHz sampling rate a given. The sonic elements were not as catered to as the visual here but there was an attempt to mimic the over-the-top graphic words ("Pow! Zlonk!" and others) on screen with matching effects. The vocals were on the low side at times but appeared to show some separation, the dynamic range impacted as well in several scenes. The mix of the background music and effects was balanced better than most shows as well, though the bar has long been set mighty low by those in the industry relying on post production too heavily.

Body of Review: Axel Braun is one of the most recognized names in the porno parody market these days, some of his very best efforts helping make the way for those of lesser skills. Along with Will Ryder and Lee Roy Myers, he is considered one of the top three of the pack, the man recently forming his own production company to increase control of his projects in a deal with industry leader Vivid. My own assessment of his work is that he is solidly in the #2 spot but through a quirk in fate, he came up with a title geared to compete against all comers this fall with Batman XXX. The show is a parody of the popular original television series from the mid 1960's (a parody itself), using Dale DaBone and James Deen as the crime fighting dynamic duo so many kids and parents learned to appreciate. Rather than get too literal with the comedic elements, the show focused more on pornifying the interpersonal conflicts, making it work largely because the supporting cast members such as the mighty Evan Stone as the Riddler, Randy Spears as The Joker, and Tori Black as Catwoman; only a handful straying from the original wooden camp performances that made the show a big hit for its limited run on network television (even showing twice a week for a year or so). The company website described the plot like this: "When The Riddler kidnaps Bruce Wayne's fiance', Commissioner Gordon calls Batman and Robin to the rescue. But when Batman gets drugged and kidnapped as well, it's up to Robin and Batgirl to untangle the mystery. They soon discover that Catwoman and The Joker are also behind the devilish scheme to get rid of the dynamic duo forever. Will this be the end for the Caped Crusader and the Boy Wonder?" Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

The thematic elements were at least as well handled as the sex too, making this one worthy of being considered a sure fire hit, earning a rating of Xcritic Pick despite the need to polish up certain aspects a bit more. In short then, Batman XXX will be a tough choice to beat come awards time, director Axel Braun going all out to put the smack down on his competitors, his hard work showing up time and again as I analyzed the movie. If you want a spoof making fun of a title, look elsewhere but in terms of capturing the essence of the original, this one was a winner!
