Audio/Video Quality: Fresh Picked was presented in a 1.78:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen color it was shot in by director B. Skow for Vivid using the standard definition MPEG-2 codec in 480 resolution for this DVD. The flick was shot in 1080i/60 high definition awhile back, though presented in the SD format (for now), in what appeared to be a more intimate setting than some of Skow's works to date. The lighting was well handled and this added to the pleasure of watching the gals in play as the lengthy scenes gave them enough freedom to explore their sexuality. The composition of the camera angles was almost always optimal this time, Skow seeing fit to try and enhance the look of the ladies at every turn as possible, T-Bird Meadows editing the production with some care. The fleshtones were accurate too and the DVD mastering was well done (the bitrate hovering around 4.2 Mbps), even if the lighting was off at times (the company watermark will be bothersome to some out there but only some given its location). At times there appeared to be multiple cameras used on some scenes, the equipment not matched up so the edits were more readily apparent, a soft haze included at times that I could not quite explain. The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital English (in 256 Kbps with a 48 kHz sampling rate) offering with the vocals sounding flat and the music pretty decent. The aural qualities of the movie appeared to offer some separation and increased dynamic range, the vocals easily heard in most cases and mixed in with the ambient noises as well as music but some scenes were not as well handled in this regard as others for those paying attention.

Body of Review: B. Skow is known as the head director for Vivid at this writing, his best work generally accepted to be his showcase efforts with contract performers and his attempts to provide lengthy looks at brand new girls in the industry. While I have not heard much from him in recent months, I have noted that his work seems to be branching out into new areas now that he is the only regular director for the company outside of pet projects. The latest release under his direction is called Fresh Picked, a collection of six scenes starring a number of gals that have been in porn for awhile but seem to share a certain youthful quality. For me, the leading hotty was Lexi Belle, her work heating up the small screen a number of times for me, though Ashlyn Rae and others certainly fell well within the expected degree of age (late teens to early twenties); Tanner Mayes a surprise considering her numerous issues at other companies. Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Summary: Fresh Picked by director B. Skow for Vivid was not his best work and he did not showcase each lady as well as possible (some received the "Skow treatment" better than others) but there was more than enough fuck for the buck to give a healthy representation of all of them given the movie lasted over 200 minutes long. I rated the flick as Recommended due to the levels of replay value and strokability, but your mileage will vary considerably depending on what you expect out of the movie. In short, Fresh Picked did not rise to the level of Skow's BNF series in terms of getting all newcomers nor did it showcase each performer as solidly as his previous work has for contract gals at Vivid, but there was substantial material with each lady present so check it out all the same because maybe Skow is onto something here.
