Audio/Video Quality: Hooked was presented in an anamorphic 1.78:1 widescreen color as it was shot in by director Brad Armstrong for Wicked Pictures using the MPEG-2 codec employed by most standard definition titles these days (with 480 resolution). The lighting was better than usual in most scenes, the director wisely allowing his director of photography (Francois Clousot) to balance out the darker scenes and lighter ones with a nice touch. The composition of the shots helped enhance the look of the ladies too, a blend of medium, long, and close up shots establishing various perspectives. The bitrate seemed to frequently hover in the upper 3.6 Mbps range so it could have looked worse, some shadows on sex scenes used to work the story rather than allow for the usual flat lighting of a porno. It was a decent looking fuck flick at times, even for a smaller budget release from the company, striking me as big on creativity even if low on actual budget, with Jessica Drake providing plenty of input on the production. The audio was presented in 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround English track showing a 384 Kbps bitrate (twice the normal rate for a porno) and a 48 kHz sampling rate, it did have some separation between the channels but most of it appeared to be related to the musical score and not the vocals.

Body of Review: Brad Armstrong is one of the best known directors of feature porn thanks to his extensive history at Wicked Pictures. I don't tackle too many couple movies these days for a host of reasons but as expected, this one worked well enough for replay value and strokability that a rating of Recommended seems fair. Fans of gonzo releases centering on circus act sex will want to pass it up but those who find Jessica Drake to be one of the hottest women in porn should consider it as a "must have", the company dynamic of entertainment versus the industry held production lines clearly delineated once more. In short, Hooked showed how experienced ladies can still successfully compete against the hoards of industry newcomers in porn made for fun, the end result well worth checking out.
