Audio/Video Quality: Girl Crush Vol. 1 was presented in a decent 1.78:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen color as released by director Mason for Elegant Angel (under their "Club 59" label) using the standard definition MPEG-2 codec with 480 resolution. The camera work was again solid with plentiful lighting to eliminate grain, video noise and shadows so the picture appeared to be in line with her other work to date. Mason has made or assisted on a number of titles over the years, the technical matters taking back seat (pun intended) to the raw energy of the sex, but her skill levels have definitely been improving with the camera too, showing she pays attention for those that care (in fact, most of her current works look almost identical to those of Nutsack). I saw no compression artifacts though the video bitrate was roughly 3.1 Mbps when spot checked but the composition of the camera angles strongly favored the ladies and their well lit bodies. The compositions of the shots helped maximize the potential of the ladies too, rarely relying on extreme close ups all the time as some seem destined to do and the editing by Team Royson allowing her vision to remain as complete as possible. The 2.0 Dolby Digital English track was pretty basic with little separation or dynamic range yet I could hear the cast well enough in most cases. For those keeping track, the audio was offered in a 256 Kbps offering with a 48 kHz sampling rate, the grunts and groans heard well enough but the music not a factor this time.

Body of Review: Mason has been known as one of the few women able to compete with men in terms of making hardcore smut for companies like Elegant Angel. As a result, some have suggested that this was the only genre she could capably direct, forgetting that the woman has a mind of her own. As if to challenge such beliefs, Mason has now started a lesbian line of projects under the "Club 59" label with Girl Crush Vol. 1, the movie using four pairs of ladies that truly appreciate one another physically, to showcase the director's love of women having a great time. I had my doubts going into the movie, the sheer quantity of lipstick lesbians in the industry far out numbering those that not only love pussy as much as any man does, but can fulfill both sides of the pleasure coin in heated trysts that even the most hardcore loving raincoater should admit worked on multiple levels. Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Yurizan Beltran and Hailey James

Scene One: Zoe Voss and Aiden Ashley, the attractive young ladies featured on the front cover, were up first to set the overall dynamic of the movie, certainly a far cry from most of the director's movies to date. There was some lengthy interview material with the gals describing what they wanted and how they approached the project, detailing what they adore about women while sitting comfortably. When the actual sex started, they were kissing romantically, caressing each other, and otherwise spending a lot of time on the basics, the sheer eroticism of it all getting me ready to rumble. A large white day bed held the two and they were dressed in jeans and tank tops rather than exotic slutware or sexy lingerie, their playful demeanor propelling the scene ahead of many others in the genre shot elsewhere. Some body grinding and low key moans also helped make this one stand out, my surprise being that each of the other three scenes flowed in much the same manner.

Scene Two: Celeste Star, a 24 year old hotty with brilliant eyes, was up next with cute redhead Isobel Wren, the interview leading to a smoking hot tryst between the two. They were dressed reasonably well with Celeste in a pink dress and Isobel in blue jean shorts and a colorful top, both of them on the floor by a wide body white couch. They licked and kissed each other before embracing, neither of them needing any genetic juice or population pudding to deal with as they worked each other in an increasing tempo. There was a lot of nonverbal communication here (again, it was standard in the movie) the vocalizations minimalist but working for me all the same. Celeste was generally positioned in the lead too, no toys needed to get one another off at least a couple times each.

Scene Three: Gracie Glam and Brooke Lee Adams, both considered curvy gals with a lot of sex appeal, were then up together in a slight change of pace during their interview (as opposed to solo interviews). Their chemistry was solid and each provided ample replay value in how they approached their role, a passionate drive displayed by them as they kissed and frolicked about on the tan couch (with a sheet across it). They wore colorful tank tops and shorts, neither offering the slightest bit of resistance to the other as they used the slow pace to enjoy what they were doing. There was plenty of taste testing and eating out, the kissing coming in frequently and deep with substantial eye contact.

Scene Four: Hailey James and Yurizan Beltran were up last (the back cover suggested they were in the second scene though) as they followed through with the usual lesbian tricks. While Hailey was perhaps the plainest looking gal of the entire movie, she proved to be one of the better performers too, her bubbly nature not masking her masculine sexual traits that needed more sex, more often, as a dominant role. They were in the white living room on the couch, kissing in generic clothing in a hungry fashion, their chemistry as immediately apparent as the rest of the lesbian tribe here. Eating, licking, and paying each other a lot of attention also made this work too.

Summary: Girl Crush Vol. 1 by director Mason for Elegant Angel was interesting in how the interviews at the beginning of each of the four scenes seemed to properly outline what each lady expected, what she had to offer, and how much she wanted to do things as she wanted to rather than be micromanaged by some chump with a camera. The scenes then proceeded to show exactly what was promised with each scene taking on a life of its own, the pacing dictated by the ladies instead of following a strict formulaic approach as is the norm in the industry. There were some minor rough edges on the technical matters at times lending to a single camera approach but frankly, the strength of the sexual interactions was as appealing as anything I've seen from companies devoted to sex-positive lesbian action, the genuine orgasms working for me every time. As such, I rated this one as Highly Recommended, making it the title to beat in the upcoming series of award shows and the like, giving the fans of a certain Australian company, an avian-named group, and others some competition for a change. In short, if you enjoy attractive young ladies getting each other off, you will find the lack of outlandish toys, fake moans, and other industry standards being tossed aside enjoyable as you check out Girl Crush Vol. 1 in your collection.
