DVD BREAKDOWN:

This is my second time reviewing Jacky St. James and I already notice some resemblances to the other adult film I reviewed from her. The box cover with Ryan Driller involves two look-alike performers standing on either side of the lucky male talent on the cover.  It is a clean cover that is heavily reminiscent of the film Two Of A Kind that I watched and reviewed. It is another Sweet Sinner feature with Jacky St. James' namesake. But the adage "don't judge a book by its cover" comes to mind even though both films share box covers that ironically look alike. The story behind them could be very different at hand. This doesn't quell any level of curiosity as Jacky St. James doesn't let her fans down with the quality she exudes in her directorial ability. The seriousness of these productions prevails as you see the standard tag line at the top of the box that recites "Perfection has its price" above the trio of fully clothed performers posing. The three female leads are credited below the characters modeling on the clean box cover. While the logo of the film called “Doppelganger” is written large cursive font.

Behind this on the back of the DVD box will reveal the XXX images of sex stills. This is organized in two columns next to a larger photo of Kenna James performing a blowjob. The Sweet Sinner insignia sits above this with the website of the studio close by. The film’s title is packed near this information as well. At the bottom of the box, the home network of Mile High Media has their moniker famously added next to the special features adverts. The Special Features is listed with very small writing as with the importance of the film’s summary. Bring out your glasses if you plan to see what this film is all about. Upon reading it myself I found that the tale is staunchly different from Two Of A Kind. As expected since Jacky is known to keep her fans satiated with new tales each film she releases even though she didn't write this one, Shaw Alff did. Upon further investigation, I noticed that the legalese is printed in a larger font than the summary of the film which is a strain on the eyes to read.

Once I slid the disc into my PS4 to check out the specs for the DVD all I had to do was hit the triangle button on the controller. This brings up the DVD-ROM tab that shows the length of the film while numbering the chapter skips you can jump around through. It has a total of 37 chapter stops on this DVD. The same menu also revealed that the video codec is in the MPEG-2 format. Dolby Digital is supported for your sound setups. There are only two primary menus to browse on the disc giving a simplistic approach to Doppelganger’s DVD presentation. The “Main Menu” is one of them and contains an animated montage of the scenes in a blue hue with a smoking logo as the animated features. The scene selection menu contains animated thumbs for the four chapters of the disc.  Only the female talent is listed per animated thumbs. Clicking on the other features in the “Main Menu” like the “Slideshow” takes you straight to them. No menus are used to guide the trailers menu as they start right up when you access that part of the DVD.

OPENING STATEMENT:

The microscopic summary on the back of the box tells a tale of the mega-rich altering their bodies at the whims of their wealthiest desires. Using technological advancements to change their appearance like human chameleons. This is a fascinating setup for the sex that I’m about to watch and can only lead to even more interesting characters. Kenna James plays a stripper that Ryan Driller’s character yearns for. The summary explains him as a very rich man due to inheritance and will stop at nothing to alter his look to get what he wants. Alexa Grace the female performer that plays his daughter is at the behest of her rich desires and wants what she can't have. Sweet Sinner specializes in these tantalizing tales that only lead to steamy sex, in turn, satisfying even the hungriest porn fans and capturing causal viewers that want to see what professionally produced porn is all about. A DVD box cover with a mainstream approach only betters the chances of this film being rented or bought. It is time I watched it myself to see what these Doppelgangers are up to.

ALEXA GRACE, LUCAS FROST:

The film throws you in just like you see Lucas Frost being thrown down on the bed by Alexa Grace in this first scene. This happens after a basic scroll of film credits that phase through a black screen. Revealing the performers, writers, and directors a part of this film titled Doppelganger. Ryan Driller then speaks in voice-over describing himself as the man he formerly used to be as you see a picture sitting on a nightstand. A quick setup of the film’s plot is also thrown at you with the description of this new genetic technology that turned what Ryan Driller used to be into something else, Chad Alva can be seen in a picture on a table showing the person that Ryan Driller was before this hi-tech surgery. He details the wealthy people embracing this new body-altering technology in narration as the camera pans to a bedside setup where the very nightstand carrying the old photo of Ryan Driller sits.

Then you'll see Lucas Frost being dropped down on the bed by a horny Alexa Grace. His head hits something “rocky” behind the pillow. He reaches for it to find a pistol behind it. Alexa Grace then comments that it belongs to her father realizing that this is the hiding spot for his firearm. Soon enough both performers seep into the passionate sex that starts the scene’s encounter. Alexa Grace is taking charge by kissing Lucas rampantly as she is on top of him while also removing articles of clothing. They tumble and roll about in this fiery session of foreplay that even has instances of dry humping. This is very realistic couples sex in motion. Shelving of fine wine can be seen behind him as he waits at his table. Finally, Kenna James steps into frame to sit down with him. Ryan Driller brings up that they always have to meet in public. Kenna then reveals it is her protocol to not meet clients at their homes. They discuss the fact that Ryan Driller has the risk of jealous women in his life that prevents Kenna from meeting him at his home. He laments that his stepdaughter can indeed be a problem and that he wants to rid her by paying her off with the rest of a trust fund. After this brief discussion, Kenna will depart and we will enter a flashback sequence with Ryan Driller’s old self.

Chad Alva is on-screen taking selfies of himself with a past lover it seems. The old Ryan Driller looks nothing like his new self, obviously, since the advanced gene-splicing operation is made to make him look older and more distinguished. He shows a mock-up on his phone to Samantha Hayes of what Chad Alva will become. She shows some concern resulting in the aftermath of the operation. He offers that he'll pay for her potential operation if his goes well. Samantha then reveals that he has always referred to her as perfect thus questioning the need for her receiving the same operation. The old Ryan Driller aka Chad Alva laughs this off and then proceeds to make out with Samantha.

He warns his stepdaughter that all these surgeries won't change the way he looks at her. Alexa can’t be bothered with his insight and continues her search for a better body.

His stripper mistress suddenly shows up. This is no surprise to the viewer as we saw the surgery transformation of Alexa Grace into Kenna James during Ryan Driller's voice over. The result of the stand-off only leaves one of them alive as you hear a gunshot before the screen quickly fades to black. The next scene has a distraught Kenna James coming to Ryan Driller as he sits bedside on his phone, she then reveals the tragic news. She says that Alexa is dead. “There is a girl who looks like me dead on my apartment floor…” she says this to Ryan Driller as she is in shock about what happened. Luckily, Ryan Driller has a plan or an “out” he claims. He brings up that there was money saved for her genetic surgery to be done that she had earned from her dancing. They devise a plan to just use this money in hopes of covering up what happened in Kenna’s apartment.

The next sequence shows Kenna going under the advanced surgery to replace the dead girl on her apartment floor that was formerly her. She is having the surgery done to look like Ryan Driller’s now dead stepdaughter before she had the surgery to look like her in these winding turn of events. It seemed weird at first but both of them are now accepting of this new body that the real Kenna is in. The ending of the film is of him sitting on some steps looking at the broken portrait of him with his former wife, Samantha Hayes as Chad Alva. A former life he thought he was living.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

At first glance, this movie can be easily viewed as confusing. But to a viewer that isn't lazy and appreciates daring plots, this can be a reason to re-watch a porno. Causing a viewer to re-watch a pornographic film for the story is a feat in itself. This is further augmented with the heady and deep writing form Shawn Alff touching upon aspects of the human condition. The idea of advanced genetic surgery to have a new body is the perfect arena for covering the identity crisis of the human soul. The theme of trying to satiate the desire to be someone else is ever-present. Having key players like Ryan Driller, Alexa Grace, and Kenna James act their asses off in these roles helps this cause of good porn with a good story. Chad Alva and Samantha Hayes’ scene furthered the momentum of good sex within this engaging plot. I have to Highly Recommend this feature directed by Jacky St. James because of sheer replay value. Not many adult films can offer that outside of a quick fix for your favorite sex sequence.
